Lil Wayne – Da Drought

My friend and I took a deepdive into this mixtape and will be reviewing every Wayne tape going forward but as this was seemingly Wayne's first solo mixtape it's a bit lackluster imo. The 2 songs I really felt were Cops is Watching and Da Drought. Everything else was subpar to me.

Drought 1 is basically the shift from his cash money style to the style he wants.

It's not amazing by any means. There's a few cute on here that are great but overall it's literally just songs that wouldn't make the final album. Throwaway basically.

Yes he actually states that in the ign interview I posted. He said he had a ton of unused songs and they all went to Da drought mixtape. I've started listening to Da drought 2 and it's clear that some of the tracks there too were meant for Carter 1.

So many places was also on d1 for some reason but DatPiff didn't have it. Drought 2 was a huge improvement for sure but what the hell was up with those unfinished tracks by Reel? "Can't no n#' and "shake ya money maker"?

Also where the hell is Reel now? He was fire on "Everything will be fine" on d2 and "I miss my Dawgs" on Carter 1.

Furthermore who is Pauleone, Twin, and LJ?

Yep. If I'm not mistaken this was when CMR was going through that shift. I still have all those Sqad mixtapes from when Wayne was murdering everyone's beats and a few original songs. One of my favorites from the Drought

Seriously in 2004/late 2003 where the hell would one even download mixtapes. I guess on kazaa or some shyt or at a swap meet but it's crazy to think how da drought 1 was even shared. I guess there was also mix unit right?

I don't remember the drought 1 to be honest..

It was the Sqad tapes I remember prior to the first Carter..

I remember the Carter taking forever to come out, kept getting pushed back..

He put out the Get Somethin single and then nothing happened for a min...

Then Bring It Back dropped and none of us believed he was actually gonna drop...

Then it finally did
