His argument is weak.

Artists get criticized all the time for lack of lyrical depth, especially when it also means you're rapping about the same thing over and over again (Ross, 50, etc.)

But in all honesty, even in his heyday, Wayne was not known for his lyricism. He's always valued style over substance.

He clarified his point of view and gave us a sufficient answer to questions about his lyrical content

Wrong . . he said . . that's his lane, it's up to the consumer to decide if he needs to change direction. Money talks

I understand he says it's his lane, but that doesn't diminish the criticism.

Putting out sub par music and telling his fans to fukk off if they don't like it. :dahell:

As an artist it's his job to set the creative direction that will define his brand of music. If he feels comfortable with his work and consumers are stepping to the plate to support it with their dollars then what more can you ask for? The real artistic mantra he could've said was instead of "if I'm not saying what you wanna hear find someone who is" he could've said "if nobody's saying what you wanna hear then go say what you wanna say" . . then he might've planted the seeds to spark the artistic interest of another individual who might look up to him

In the perfect world, you're right. Artist would hold themselves accountable like politicians are expected to, however that's an ideal setting that nobody takes part in. There's no point in eating an apple when you want orange juice
