Dope album
I fukks with wayne heavy. This ain't it.
-Too many mellow tracks, and piano based beats
-Too much misused autotune, at least in the first half (he used it a lot from like 2008 on, but never bothered me this much)
-Not a lot of bangers or songs for the Radio (Not even a She Will like from C4). Which he is basically know for. Wayne is older now though. Maybe he don't got the same energy.
-Production is the worst of the series (Problems is the most generic trap beat i ever heard, and while generic can sometimes be good, Wayne deserved better), who is the executive? Fire him/her.
-Needed more relevant features (Future, Meek Mill, Bieber, Weeknd etc), and the features that were there seemed as unmotivated as Wayne (rip XXX).
-Sounds like a retirement/goodbye/rip album (Wayne NEVER starts his album off with these type tracks)
-You can tell on Mona Lisa that's TPAB era Kendrick (sounds dated)
-Sounds Depressed, unmotivated on most tracks
-Damn near more singing than rapping
-No Drake feature???
+Still some witty bars, but it's basically in spurts
+Let It All Work Out is a good outro
+Not a lot of p*ssy reference bars
Sorry 4 the Wait 2, and D6 part 1 was WAY better than this. He sounded like he had something to prove on those. ESPECIALLY S4TW2. Shyt i'm bout to go back to S4TW2 tomorrow, and delete this.
I think Wayne creatively is done. He can still kill OTHER nikkas beats though, because theres a source material he can go off of. Plus he's motivated by the original track, so sometimes he'll try to out do it. When it comes to making his own shyt, i think he has no direction, and is less motivated. This album in particular i think he was going through some things through a majority of it, so that didn't help. Even C4 is better than this. Doesn't even sound like a "Tha Carter" series album. Them albums have a combination of:
club/radio songs, and songs for the ladies (Go DJ, Lollipop, How to Love etc)
serious reflection of society songs (Tie My Hands)
Songs addressing the culture/hip hop (Best Rapper Alive, Dr. Carter)
songs for the streets/bars (BM J.R., Tha Mobb, Hustler Musik, John, You Ain't Got Nuthin')
Fun songs also for the radio, aimed for the HS audience (A Milli, 6 foot 7 Foot)
And the Carter 3 sessions/leaks (Drought is Over 2, 4) is still life. This is lifeless.
2.5/5 stars
