Lionel tried to clean it up on Hoe Rogan.

People were stealing this little kids clothes every chance they got. He would wear the clothes he had days in a row.

I have this book and I'm only 5 chapters in right now. I literally spend hundreds a month on books. This tuesday I got a book on Iverson and another on the Halloween franchise coming in. It's a very interesting read. I've just been busy and that's why I haven't read half of it yet. One thing that confuses the fukk out of me is that Lionel Richie grew up in segregated azz Alabama. He witnessed his dad barely escaping a mob of white folks while calling him all types of "******s" just because he was a kid and accidentally drank from a 'whites only' fountain, he knew one of the girls in the Birmingham church bombing, he lived through segregation and after all that, he dates and hangs out with damn near all white people in Hollywood!! WTF. I don't get it. I hope reading more will shed light on how he went from idolizing Malcolm X and the pro black movement, being involved in antiracial protests, to what he is now. And I'm not saying he's a sellout by any means because he talks about his Homeboy Association that was formed as teens that still meet up as adults, but there is no way I could be on tv weekly being buddy buddy with white folks and hanging out with them after the shyt he's seen and lived through. The history we read about in school was shyt he saw LIVE!!! goddamn...

Is it actually true that Lionel Richie caught his break in the industry simply because Rick James was a coked out head case who pissed off the execs later in his career?
I see that you saw that cartoon short on youtube  . The Commodores were already selling millions of albums prior to Lionel going solo. The thing is, they were selling a million here, gold here, a million there to him selling 10s of millions in singles and albums. Mostly because he catored to a white audience and "softened" up his sound and got rid of the funk and soul after leaving them. His music was still good, but it wasn't as good as the Commodores shyt. I don't give a fukk how many white folks bought it. And I lived that in real time. After he left them, they didn't get another hit until the "nightshift", but that joint was still better than songs like "hello" and "say you say me", but I liked all them joints.

Damn! :wow:

Smokey Robinsons Father went through the same thing but as for Lionel you right a 100% he even spread that out to his real daughter Sofia and adopted a wh1te girl in Nicole. I dont know how all these older entertainers turn out with the fragility subservient angle. We could go deeper but Lionel was not the only one who went bugged out. Nice info!

yeah man, the hate was real. He discusses as he was on the tennis team and when they'd play other schools, white boys, the football players basically told him, "Don't lose that white boy" or he had an ass whipping coming

They went through it all, it's a damn shame.

That's why the music and passions it evoked back then were more potent. Lionel Ritchie's music is golden emotional music.

That entertainment package comes with a lot of perks and brainwashing. They do it to the great young black scholars and scientist too. They get them in those private schools and feed them wh1te propaganda until they graduate multi-geniuses working for the opps voluntarily. A lot of modern Afrocentric lectures are highlighting whats taken place. All Asian stand up comics have wh1te partners, all of them!

It's that special opps delivery package lol.

He said its cause people kept stealing his clothes and since he wore the same jeans Quincy Jones would call him that.

ok I'm on chapter 16 of the book and I have over 120 pages to go. Lionel Ritchie has lived an interesting life. here are some highlights other than what I've already mentioned...

He stopped being pro black and left the movement due to his dad, being a military officer with a top secret level clearance, showing his photographs of himself leaving home and attending a rally in which a politician was kidnapped on campus. His dad informed him that most of the guys in these pro black movements are informants as he himself had connections to get the drop on everything going down. That's one of the reasons that I stopped attending rallies in my 30s and stopped fukking with these movements around here. Too many rats and white folks involved for me. I can understand that

The Commodores got put on due to their manager being close friends with Suzanne de Passe. She got them an audition with Barry Gordy. For the first 2 years, they were a cover band opening for the Jackson 5 on the road. He said they were performing for mostly teenagers and kids under 10 years old, but they were stealing the show with their parents a lot of nights. This led to Joe Jackson sabotaging them and having their equipment and clothes left in another city before one show

Before Motown, they were a house band in Wilt Chaimberlain's club in Harlem during the 60s. He said they had equipment stolen and some of the guys got mugged a bit until they were playing so well that the hustlers in the area made them off limits to robberies. They were under the protection of dangerous street guys. One of them was Frank Lucas(yes, THAT Frank Lucas) who was a regular at the club.

"Machine Gun" (album with "assembly line" that was sampled by everyone from Eric B and Rakim to Kool G Rap) saved their career at Motown after many unsuccessful singles.

The Elizabeth Taylor story was crazy. He said she approached him to do a movie night at his house with his wife and George Hamilton. He didn't know what she wanted to eat, but when everything was worked out, they ate her favorite foods. Fried chicken, collard greens, along with mac & cheese. He said she showed up in a Fila tracksuit late because they stopped by the gas station to pick up some scratch off lottery tickets.

Bob Marley and the Wailers opened for him in NY(there is a thread about it up here). He and Bob was backstage talking as he was smoking that good shyt and Bob explained to him about this new genre of music called Rap that was blowing up. As they were talking, a young rapper named Kurtis Blow was on stage opening the show. Yooo. I can't imagine someone's grandparents telling them they saw Kurtis Blow, Bob Marley AND the Commodores in one show. Those people had no idea what they were watching!!

It's filled with a lot of details about his life and in the industry including motown stories about Norman Whitefield, Diana ross, Prince, Berry Gordy, and of course Michael jackson from a kid to an adult.

Q has called Mike "Smelly" in damn near every one of his documentaries and interviews. That's not new.

Secondly, Lionel Richie is a bum.
According to Quincy, he called him Smelly because of the size of his nose. That’s crazy because I JUST saw a pic on facebook of MJ chilling at Studio 54 and I was like “Damn, his nose looks big in that pic :mjlol: .” He used to get picked on about his nose and was one of the reasons why he got surgery done on it.

Good stuff

Agitators and informants are always embedded in "movements", and with their own agendas. We all saw it in 2020, with peaceful demonstrations of hundreds of people being marred by violence/theft by a handful. Grassroots organizations are in the community doing the real work for the long haul, fly by night "movements" come and go like every other trend.

Interesting about Marley being plugged in to rap so early, but when he was performing in NYC he was passing through /staying in the streets of Flatbush, BK and hearing it.
