The money flows down, you get paid to make a series, movie or for a musician album. This means you pay for the shyt you produce with the budget they sign off-on - that is the value of the overall deal. Often you get some of this upfront, or yearly and often you get a cut of the success, more often in music. In series, often the studio or other production companies might co-invest with you providing additional funds.

The point is that these contract are long and complex like Issa Rae was saying when everyone said she was get x million. She might get more or less, nobody outside of that circle knows that.

Power after the first 3 or so seasons started to live off shock factor.
But ghost and raising Kanan (at least for now lol) focus much more on building the story

Even in S1 of power some parts felt rushed into.
