37. I was a baby during most of this era but I was still listening to rap and exposed to a lot of music because my cousins would play it all the time when they baby sat me. But then, of course, you get older and go back and really understand what nikkas was saying.

THIS

the best thing about it was, most of the music was relatively clean. so just about everything was played freely, even if there was a lil bit of cursing in it.

i ended up having my own lil collection of hand-me-downs before i even started school. there was really just a short-list of rappers that i couldnt listen to: schooly d, Ice, T, NWA and a couple others.

i was allowed to listen to my mom's D.O.C. tape but couldnt touch the NWA jawn. BUT ON THE LOW, i would turn the volume down and bump the hell out of the last cut, which had NWA going off on it. i guess she forgot about that song at the end. i always found that oversight funny.

Pops is 41 and I asked him to name his top 25 from the 80s and he was like G rap, Rakim, Slick, Kane and then he gave up lol. After that he proceeded to name 100 people from the 90’s.
