when have outkast ever made a traditional hip hop album?

Their music was always original, but the musical elements and instrumentals they used were always intrinsically hip hop.

Not quite sure what I was listening to on Big Boi's album. Maybe trash is harsh, I'm sure there is an audience that loves whatever style of music he was rhyming over.

Big Boi has stated numerous times that his main influence has always been funk. this album is a bit left field but it's not like he dropped a lasers on us.

People hate because their some legit musicians on this

overall there are only two songs that i wasn't really feeling that much. she hates me and shoes for running. mama told me grew on me and the rest of the album is :whew:. i learned early to expect the unexpected from outkast. big boi always keeps it funky and that's all that i ask for at the end of the day.

:rudy:What? Why would anybody be upset because of that? If the music is dope, it don't matter how it got to that end. Maybe everybody just doesn't agree that this is a good piece of music. I love Big Boi, so I had all the optimism in the world that I would enjoy this album.

It is more of a trip-hop/electronic/downtempo sound that he moved towards for this one, but he reached out to those bands, so I can't knock him for wanting to expand a bit. He kept it more "traditional" still working w/ Sleepy and TI and all of them.

It is all subjective. When hip-hop started to change w/ the South's rising and overall lazy flows, it pushed me towards trip-hop more to look for that more organic sound.

I could see how some wouldn't like this album though. :manny:

it sounded like Big Boi said "ok if 3000 dont want to work with me im going to use his style of beats" and tried to make a Outkast album without Andre 3000.

Robin tried to play the roll of Batman and Robin but Failed.

Big Boi lane in Outkast was always the smooth old school player type.he balanced out the group with the "southern playa style" wile 3000 was on that weirdo shyt.

Album was trash to me and I like Big Boi. shyt wasn't hip hop at all, more like some alternative genre I'm not aware of. Was I not given the memo that Big Boi wasn't making a traditonal hip hop album?
It wouldnt kill you to broaden your musical taste breh. Theres a massive indie thread in Left Field where you can feast

Funny thing is, Dre seems more likely to make a contemporary trap-influenced album, with the usual suspects featuring, based on the collabos hes been doing

:beli: now you're just putting words in our mouths. no one is cheering big boi on to "go the hey ya route." we're just aware that big boi has always had outside influences beyond hip hop (namely funk). you're acting like speakerboxxx and sir lucious leftfoot sounded like illmatic. lyrically big boi is still on the same southern pimp shyt he's always been on.
