Serenity crew were actually outlaws not bounty hunters. They did odd jobs and pulled off heists but iirc they never really took on bounty hunting and they did their best to avoid the law and civilization. That's why I'd rather compare Firefly to Outlaw Star instead of Cowboy Bebop.

I don’t know why but i thought they started taking on bounty jobs later in the season. But its been like 4 years since i ran the series back. Either way it was original enough that i wouldn’t accuse Whedon of anything but being inspired

I think Cho is very inspired casting. Not familiar with the others cast but even black Jet makes sense to me.

I always thought jet was black anyway. His English voice actor is black. I personally can't see Cho as spike but I hope he kills it, maybe he'll surprise us all. I want this to be good.

As as the Spike casting is, the move that’s gonna make or break this is gonna be how they handle the soundtrack. You can’t do Cowboy Bebop without Yoko Kanno. And if they’re just gonna replay all the old shyt, what’s the point?

but what is the fascination with cowboy bebop.
i watched a few episodes and it was ok at best TO ME
maybe i don't get the premise

Really not that difficult to get. I personally love jazz, spaghetti westerns, and anime. When put them all together with a great story and amazing characters in space its just top quality. Spike is one of if not the coolest anime characters ever.

It looks like they went after actors who could act and made the cast diverse. I’m interested so far. My only hope is they don’t just interpret the anime and add some original storylines. They can’t outdo the anime.

Well I mean, Julia is basically supposed to be a white chick based on how she's drawn -

So I don't really see an issue with the casting. But hopefully they do some original stories or plot twists and don't just follow the anime exactly.

I've already seen most of the anime and I feel like it would take away from experience if I know everything that'll happen.
