I live below my means.

The only time I spend a substantial amount on stuff is when I know that I will maximize it's value or use. Priorities are clear in my head.

I'm the type of person that would much rather have the funds to do things that I'll remember than to have stuff to flaunt around

This is something I always strive for. I try to live as minimalist as possible, but there are always "things" that I want. I'm working on controlling the urge to buy stuff. I'm doing pretty well and save a decent amount but I could be doing much better.

i'm getting better w age but i still act like an ass every here and there.

I think mostly it comes with age. When we're young it's natural to want to impress others because you're wanting to find that woman or whatever it may be.

But when you get older and settle down, you notice aint none of that shyt going to make your life better. You notice a $500 pair of sunglasses is the same as a $15 pair of sunglasses.

A car is to get to work.

I literally don't even buy clothes at this point, that's my girls thing. She knows what I like and every now and then she`ll get me a new shirt (b-day, holiday, etc) or some new jeans.

Seems like a  concept in America with all the social networking and focus on celebrities and whatnot but I gotta be honest, once I stopped giving a fak about "the Jones'" and people's opinions, my money started looking :leon:.
TBH, the hardest person to cope with on this is my dad. In my family we were always raised to think that status matters and the size of your house MATTERS and what kind of car you drive defines you and whatnot. Now don't get me wrong I like nice shyt and I do want a big ass house but living that day-to-day life for appearances is straight garbage. Or maybe I'd just rather have money in the bank than a bunch of baller shyt. Or hell, maybe I'm just cheap. Who knows.
Anyone else live well beneath their means?

haha...Dude, I am in the same exact boat as you...I make ~$50000/year, and I live like a bum...

My dad started asking me if I was on drugs or a schizophrenic...I look at him like :wtb:

I just don't see the point of a big house, big car and all kinds of unnecessary stuff...

Yep, right there with you.

That gold watch, fancy car is a burden and depreciates with time.

But when you get to go on vacation, have a great meal, good night out, you`ll never forget those times....unless you get alzheimers.

So you don't live below your means you live right at them?

I think the assumption would be if you lived under your means you have money left over to stack after bills.

no, I have enough money after paying the bills to save. hell, I still have my car payment money deducted from my check and sent to my savings account on top of that despite not having a car note for like 2 years.

but that's not enough to think I'm gonna have some kinda early retirement when I got two little people I'm responsible for.

you actually start to feel a lot better without too than when you gave a shyt about how others perceived you.

my only problem is spending money on food cause of time constraints and working out. No excuses though, I gotta do better.

Clothing and shyt I could give a fukk about. I'd say I live right at my means right now.

That would suck, but I'll be taking a lot of pictures along the way

That's the main thing man.

I was pretty hip to that early on, you gonna die one day and none of that shyt you have will mean a thing, not the money, the cars, the clothes, jewelry etc..

That's why what I enjoy most spending my money on are experiences. I love to go to comedy shows, sporting events, wrestling shows. I love to eat good food and spend time w/ friends doing stuff. Also love to give gifts to my friends children and my relatives.

All we really have is the time we share with others and memories

Agreed.

I feel bad b/c I know people who buy 100s of Jordans that never leave the house :heh: DF is the point?

I don't see a point to buy a lot of materialistic things because Imma die.

Only thing I love buying is books...a few video games...clothes. Because I like to look nice when goign out and books and games and movies keep a nikka sane.

I do own every season of that 70s show :takedat:

I rather do what you said. I'm 25 -- glad I learned this now :lupe:

Yeah, just fukking around on that one.

Still all those things you did with them people are immortal man. When I sit around and think about the best times of my life, never once was it "When I got that __________ " it's always with friends or family.

May best day ever last year was going to the Jets/49ers game with all my friends, grilling drinking and just joking with them. You can't top that stuff.

It's funny because I have very similar hobbies. Love to read, have a nice book collection and I like to play VGs, but even those 9/10 i`m buying it used/trading stuff in to get it, haven't paid a full 60 for a game in god knows how long.

But those are still experiences, that's art. You get much more out of a good book/great game then you do out of a nice chain.

I think one of the worst things that can happen to somebody is ending a relationship. I can really only speak for myself but a lot of people find ways to compensate and the worst thing you can do is use material possessions thinking that youre getting one up on your ex...or that it will help attract new people.

I've always repressed that idea that the whip or the jewellry will attract women but still I remember I would buy stuff just because it would make me happy, (not expensive stuff but like a pair of jeans or new shirt). It be times that clothing just sits in the closet for ages without being worn though. The novelty wears off and youre back to sq 1. Thats kinda what made me realize there's no point. People dont care about what you wear, or what you drive in the grand scheme of things. The people who come into your life because of that, are the ones you dont want in your life anyways.

At this point all I really really care about is my career. Not even for the money but I just want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and say, "All that hard work was worth it. Good job." I have dreams of being a Wall-streeter but just living that low key life :wow:.
