Bruh I've been binging this dude all morning, I don't know how familiar you are with his work, but if you go back and listen to his peak run roughly '85 thru '95 (basically his first 6 albums run), underscores just how iconic this dude is...

People say he's a GOAT and he's still underrated...

L was caught in a weird time spot when HH was transitioning and still made a lane and owned it (over multiple shifts). It's shocking that more folks in the game (artists/etc) don't mention him often.

He's definitely underrated.

Laid a lot of blueprints and his influence is woven into the DNA of hip hop.

LL vs Jay would've been an interesting battle.

Part of this is he stayed hot for too long in a game that forgets yesterday as it chases tomorrow. He dropped in an era where Run DMC, G Rap, Eric B & Rakim, Schooly D and Mantronix were hot and soon enough they were gone. Was versatile enough to adapt whilst still staying true to himself, apart from when he took a shot to the dome but everyone caught a stray in nine trey even though he came back as Mr Smith and killed it.

Plus he opened up the actor lane, endorsements and recognition outside of rap so truly was a pioneer. Like I said people hate because he stayed hot for too long. If you look at what came after you can see bits and pieces of LL in everyone that had commercial success.
