He did coin the term.

It's not a "claim".

Above the fray.
When Jordan retired from the Bulls, Im almost certain that I saw the term used in sports journalism in debates about MJ vs KAJ vs Wilt vs Mr Russell.

Perhaps before he retired.

Nah.

LL had a whole article in Vibe where he was explaining what the term meant. Not "the greatest of all-time", but the actual term "GOAT". Nobody was saying that before LL in '99. Flex didn't even know what he meant by it, when he was on his show. Todd had to break it down for him, letter by letter.

He started that sh*t.

Pretty sure LL did make up the acronym, but I always think of this

With Earl, they called him "the GOAT" because he said growing up people couldn't spell or pronounce his name right. When he was a kid in school, he said teachers used to say his last name was "Man E Goat".

I grew up across the street from GOAT Park in NYC. They used to have spray painted goats on the handball courts there, lol. But Earl said he was called that because people couldn't get his last name right.
