IMO he is the 1st Rap/Hop Hop superstar. Dudes has been in the game for 30 years and he was the Flagship artist for hip hops biggest record label Def Jam. He's done so much for that label and for Hip Hop. Rugged enough to battle other rappers and smooth enough to serenade the ladies. I think the thing that hurt him which wasn't his fault is that he hit his peak waaay before the internet and social media took off. Dudes been in movies, TV shows, has endorsements and all that. I cant front it rubbed me the wrong way when Def Jam didn't invite him to the 30th anniversary concert. That was a major slap in the face to him.....hell to hip hop as a whole. Hes rarely mentioned in peoples top 5 but hes definitely in mine
