I would say 2 verses with the second verse always being better than the first verse. 3 verses is a luxury if we're leaving out underground hip-hop. shyt, nikkaz 32 bars isn't even really hitting anymore, they HAVE to spit 16

Depends on what type of rapper you are

If you’re a trap rapper that is carried by the beat/hook, and can’t carry a song for 3 verses, then the 1-2 verse format makes sense. Performing 3 verses would actually hurt the quality of the song.

If you’re a lyricist, using the new format can make the music underwhelming
