Banks is a lyricist especially back in that era and especially now seeing where hip hop was taken.

The Hunger for More was a classic, in my opinion it was better than get rich or die tryin. Less smash hits but just a well constructed album all around.

If Banks would have just worked harder and got togheter with some better producers and really challenged himself to get out of his comfort zone, he would have had a run back then like drake is having now.

50 kinda stunted his growth with all that beef shyt back then but Banks wasnt interested in ever stepping up to that next level of stardom, which is cool but thats why he doesnt get universal respect as a hip hop legend

But yea X was whyllin with that one, all fatmanscoop had to do was play Banks' funk flex freestyles at a minimum to let X know he is a top tier lyricist

Drugs of all kinds must be used by G Unit Stans. Or, Eminem stans that cannot digest a Public Enemy album or a song like "Nature of the Threat"

Prime DMX would make Banks run back to the nursery school and force him to read Dr. Seuss books.

Lmao. fukk does ras kass or public enemy have to do with this? Take that bull shyt somewhere else

Scoop fukked up and put Banks’ name in a class of legends. He doesn’t belong there. He may be lyrical, but you can’t rattle off all those legends, then say Lloyd Banks. That’s probably what tilted DMX. Shyt went left after that.

Man couldn’t come up with 2 bars

I get what you are saying. Someone like Banks or Black Thought would have crazy pen games to some.

:jbhmm:

Crazy pen could mean a lot of things though.

Bullsh*t chicken scratch could also result from a crazy pen. Writing about complex things in a simple way for anyone to understand. That is the sign of a good writer, an effective communicator. X wins in a landslide in that regard. Banks can't duplicate what X does. Not even close.

please don’t mention banks next to black thought

i dont expect X to really know who is spitting if they dropped way after him...Banks dropped when X was damn near on his way out. No way he truly sat and listened to dude and prob thinks he's Tony Yayo.

It just always seemed banks was layed back and relatively peaceful....but in hindsight, I don’t get how he was talkin all that “I wanna be a big star like I should be” shyt, but turnin down feature requests wit mega artists like DMX at that time........was/is this nikka retarted ......:stopitslime:.....now I see why Fif was lookin at him like :gucci:behind closed doors, lazy dude man wow

Hunger for More dropped June 2004
X dropped a 2x platinum album in late 2003
And had a #1 album in 2005 and was still on major movies up until 2006.

what i'm saying is X was a very well established artist by that point and also by 2003 he was way more shot out than he was in 98.. He's in his own world. My statement is basically a year or so off but it still remains. Its an opinion tho. I dont be expecting some rich ass crazy dude to be necessarily checking for a random mixtape rapper as deep as one of us would. like X clearly knew Banks, but he wasnt really listening and didnt feel he needed to.
