Y’all still miss the punchline Banks?

For me, I definitely don’t. :hubie:

I think this type of music ages better. I was trying to put one of my younger beatmaking homies onto Banks this week, and one thing he said about the 2000’s era Banks was that a lot of the punchlines sounded dope, but he just didn’t get them because he said they referenced topics that he doesn’t fully understand, because he’s only in his early 20’s.

He liked the newer era Banks stuff because he said it didn’t require him to have more older pop culture knowledge. That is my issue too with listening to punchline rap now. So many of the references are dated, and it relies on nostalgia.

What's the production sounding like on this one? Is it current sounding or that grimy NYC shyt? I'm checking this later can't wait to hear some new focused and revived Lloyd Banks :myman:
It’s dope man. I think you’ll like it. It sounds current but not in a “trap” way, not in a “drumless” way, and also not in a “modern boom bap” way. It doesn’t sound like Havoc, Alchemist, Madlib, Harry Fraud, Hit-Boy, Daringer, etc.

I’m surprised at how much it’s its own aesthetic. Kind of hard to explain. It’s almost like Banks has been developing his own production sound. I hardly know any of these producers but they brought their A-game.

IMO off 2 spins, it’s on the level of the better beats of his past few projects. It’s on that sort of vibe and quality. This is definitely moody and dark night time music, but it’s not trying to send you in a time machine back to 1995 either.
