Bajans and Jamaicans don't like each other. Same goes for Bahamians and Jamaicans and Trinis and Jamaicans. So for and so on. A lot it of stems from Jamaica being historically being the premier island in the anglophone nations. Another reason is back in the 50s-60s there was supposed to be a political union between all colonies of The United Kingdom called the West Indies Federation. The goal was to become independent of Britain. The headquarters of the group was supposed to be in Trinidad and Tobago but Jamaica believe that the Headquarters should be in Jamaica. The group disbanded and so the commonly held sentiment was that Jamaica felt as if it was better than everybody else or the better word is stush. Hence why it's such a common occurrence that Jamaicans get treated bad in these nations when they go their to vacation or live.

No malice if shade meant by what i'm about to say ... :whoa: but... I've heard this before and have even seen it to some degree, tho. :manny:
Aside from typical island competitions for bragging rights, many other Caribbean people feel like Jamaicans try to insert themselves into everything and steal the spotlight. and if they cant they often dismiss whatever it is in order to somewhat discredit it.

In many cities in North America (US Canada) where there are large caribbean communities, Jamaicans seem to always try to put themselves in the leadership positions in order to . represent and dictate the "caribbean voice" in a way. Like I heard back in the days there were some friction in the atlanta caribbean carnival organization because the jamaicans in the group wanted to be the decision makers and dictate everything. This was way back. And recently as of 2010-ish there was a split in the leadership which caused them to have 2 Caribbean carnivals in Atlanta on the same day (Memorial day weekend) every year for the last 6 years. Yes you read that right. 2 separate Caribbean festivals both equally big on the same day. Now i dont know if this split was caused by the same reason but who knows... Wouldn't surprise me at all

This is fukked up, hilarious, and true. :deadrose: Tell anyone who's NOT from the caribbean Rih is Jamaican and no one is going to question it.
Fixed

Face it if you're black, the moment most americans realize you're from the caribbean the first place that comes to mind is Jamaica because that's what they are used to for the most part. If they're guessing they start at Jamaica, then Trinidad and then work their way around to all the other islands ... if they even know the names.

Personally when i hear a caribbean accent i dont always assume anything until i hear them pronounced certain words which will help me pinpoint their island.
