Allen Iverson thread back in 1994:
ALLEN IVERSON"S GOT HANDLES - rec.sport.basketball.college | Google Groups
damn this dude was like a whodini with this one:
for his age and experience, allen iverson has got the best ballhandling
skillz in the nation. Watching himlast night against Memphis, he made
some mistakes, but that can be attributed to his youth and inexperience,
in time, he is sure to become the next Isiah Thomas, mark my words.
:snoop: at this dude saying Marbury better than AI and than saying MArbury will be the next MJ
allen iverson is a good player, but Stephon Marbury has reached a new level.. - alt.sports.basketball.nba.boston-celtics | Google Groups
Ever since the end of last season, I saw something in Stephon Marbury
that I used to see in a man called MJ.. This man is a scorer, assist
man, and a great defender. Many people have looked over Marbury
because of his team's record, but I think this year the Nets will go
somewhere. I also think Marbury will win the scoring title at around
30 ppg.. What do you guys think?

damn this quote was even way back in 1997 and how true it was:

Iverson is very good ball player with a KILLER crossover, but he will only
be the next "Jordan" if he gets his act together off the court and gets a
good public image. WORD UP>>>

lol at trading Kobe for Isiah Rider back in 1997:
You would be an idiot to drop Rider in order to pick up Kobe, Rider, while
yes, he is a head case, will get you 20ppg, and 4 boards 4 assists and a
steal, Kobe on the other hand is not even the 6th man on the Lakers, he's
barely the seventh man, this would be an idiotic moev in my opinion because
even when he is healthy, Kobe just won't get the minutes. You may not like
Riderm but he's a good fantasy guard.

lol at this Kobe thread in 1997:
Boy, KB wins my nomination for Rookie Game LVP. He almost singlehandedly
lost the game for the West. Could he have ignored his teammates MORE?
Could he have forced up MORE improbable shots? Allowed MORE points
through defensive gambling? And ironically, TNT chose HIM to speak for
the rookies against the charge of being the NBA's "me generation". Yech.

Kobe Bryant: Least Valuable Player - alt.sports.basketball.nba.vanc-grizzlies | Google Groups
lol at these cryptic posts way back in 2003 when Bron got drafted:
Cavs get Lebron in the draft, And LeBron will leave Cleveland as soon as he can, because they will spend no money to put a good team around him.
I can think of 90 million reasons the Cavs should pass on LBJ and take
Carmelo instead: LeBron is essentially an employee of Nike. Beholden
to the Company, whose interests will always come first. That is just a
statement of reality when you give 90 mil to an 18 year-old to wear
shoes. It literally -is- now all about the shoes. In 3-5 years time,
don't you think Nike will want LeBron in a more "exposed"
city/team/tradition? Who is making those decisions?
The main question remains: if LeBron is going to be a Cav for 3-6 years
and then move to a bigger market, isn't Carmelo a better long-term fit
for the team, even if he ends up a somewhat "lesser" player? LeBron is
not going to be developed enough to carry this current team to the
Finals--and if he does scoot after raising expectations so high, how
can that be good for the franschise? The importance of this pick is to
find a player who can be a John Stockton and stay put for a couple of
decades.

lol at Laker fans hating on drafting Kobe:
I agree with you here, but it kinda reminds me of a few years ago when the
Lakers drafted Eddie Jones when we still had Tony Smith, Doug Christie, and
Anthony Peeler. Everyone wais that we had too many guards, but aren't we happy
today that West got Eddie? Remember way back in 83 or 84 when Portland,
already with Drexler at 2-position, passed on a guy from North Carolina and
drafted Sam Bowie? I doubt that Bryant will be better than Jones though.
Benson
They'll need a back-up for Nick Van Excel, and they could sure use some outside
shooting. You don't mind losing Threatt?
And losing Peeler costs the Lakers the rest of their bench & outside
shooting. No more scoring from him.
Kobe Bryant is definitely *not* a replacement for either of these players.
He is not an impact player, even as a "rookie phenom."
> We have O'Neal, who's much better than Divac, and we have Kobe Bryant
> who seemed to have a lot of potential. Scouting reports have indicated that
> he's already a better player than Peeler.
??? Bryant already better than Peeler? No.
Bryant has upside and brings abilities to the game that Peeler
doesn't? Maybe.
Will Bryant be a good defender? No. Probably not even adequate.
Will he play the point? No. He doesn't have NBA skills WRT
ball-handling.
Will he hit the outside shot? No.
Does he sound like a role-player who will fit in on the bench? No.

Kobe Bryant has no chance of providing significant help off the bench.
Don't set your expectations to high for him. You should be happy if he
has some nice moments and develops nicely during the season.
Bulls Suck now, they always did! It was just Michael Jordan, and now they
don't even have Scottie Pippen!! I knew this would be the Rockets year!! I
live in Houston, and have always loved them, and now BOOM!! The East sucks
so badly, with its crappy teams, and the west's Utah Cheaters, (Jazz), are
too old, Laker's Kobe Bryant is a waste of time, he has no potential. If you
want potential, I think the team owners should look into Allen Iverson.
Don't you agree? My Prediction:
Finals Rockets Win:
Rockets vs. Pacers
lol at this Jordan post back in 1993
No dap to Michael Jordan for saying that just b/c he's won 3 in a row,
: he's better than Magic. Listen, if you end up wearing six Championship
: rings, then we'll talk...but I'm calling it...Chicago has won it's last
: Championship. Expect the Knicks or the Suns to whomp 'em next year...
lol at Piston fans pleading Dumars in not drafting Darko back in 2003:
Detroit fans think they are getting a dominating low post presence by
drafting Darko. You guys are in for a rude awakening. Darko is a
younger & slightly taller version of Toni Kukoc. He does not play
with his back to the basket. The kind of physical defense played in
the NBA is as foreign to him as hip-hop music. Another red flag is the
fact that, at the age of 17, Darko is already chain smoking
non-filtered cigarettes.

This has all the signs of being a repeat of 1984 when the Porland
Trailblazers took Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. Don't be stupid
Detroit... pick Carmelo Anthony.
lol at this Nash post before he got drafted:
He may not adjust as fast to the NBA
as someone like Damon, but Steve is the breed of player
along the same lines as someone, dare I say it, like Gretsky.
He's not the biggest, fastest, or strongest. But he's
got that feel for the game. But, we'll just have to wait
and see...
smh at LAker fans being LAker fans hahah:
Kobe said he wants out of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Miami Heat should try to get him. It is ok for me if The Heat would need to package Dwyane Wade, Trades are part of the job of a Professional Basketball player, kobe looks so disappointed after the 1st round series against Phoenix, for Kobe to be a Happpy man he needs to play again with Shaq, I think he loves playing with big fellow.
lol at Knicks fans hating on Nash:
I heard people here say that Nash or KJ would be good for one year, before
we get a star PG.
It gotta be kidding ! Nash??? How is he gonna help us???
I take Ward any time over Nash, I'm not even sure if he is better than
Child.

BTW, what's the real chance that Marbury lands in NY (even after next
year)??? I think it's very slim, right?
here is a draft tier post for the 1996 draft:
I see this years draft in tiers:

1st tier: 5 players (Allen, Camby, Iverson, Marbury, Abdur-Rahim)
2nd tier: 4 players (Dampier, Wallace, Walker, Kittles)
3rd tier: 5 players (Wright, Bryant, Fuller, S. Walker, Roy Rogers)
4th tier: 3 players (Nash, Jones, J Williams) maybe Rentzias is in this
tier as well
smh this type of hate for KG back in 1995 seems like the same type of hate today:
Garnett is nothing but a trash talker with slightly above average
skills. He is good, don't get me wrong, but why would anyone want someone
like him who does nothing but showboat and trash talk? Also, he would be
much better at forward than center, he is just too damn thin to play
center in my mind.

smh at Knicks fans being Knicks fans hating on Jordan before the season when the Bulls won 72 games:
I am sick and tired of reading disgusting newsposts that jock jordon.
jordon is not a good player, and the bulls are not a good team, and this
is why:

Best Current NBA Players:
1)Patrick EWing: Ewing is a better defender than Jordan, has better moves,
gets more rebounds, blocks, and doesn't ballhog the ball, Ewing is a team
palyer.
2)Grant Hill- Grant Hill is better than jordon and has better moves.
Grant is better offensively and defensively, and likes to pass the ball
around. Grant Hill is an annual threat to be the scoring leader.
3)Glenn Robinson- Robison is a better scorer than Jordan , and a better
defender. When Robison plays against the foolish bulls, he makes jordon
foolish and weak and makes jordon whimper about not having team support
and good team chemistry. If Glenn played during the preseason last year,
he would have had developed his skills much better and would have
challenged for the scoring title.Due to contract negotiations , that
didn't happen, but it will happen in the near future and jordan will
never again become the scoring leader.
4)Jerry Stackhouse- Jerry is quicker and has better moves than jordon,
and if given enough playing time will rank high in the NBA leaders in
scoring and field goal percentage.
5)Juwon Howard- Howard is a team player, unlike Jordan, with his
scoring,rebounding and passing.
6)Chris Webber- Webber is a very, very, much better all-round player than
jordan with his sccoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks, and
should be high up there in NBA scoring leaders.
7)Hakeem Olajuwon-Hakeem is better than jordon and is much quicker. He
plays better defense, and rebounds and PASSES well, and blocks shots.Last
season, Hakeem had a higher scoring average that jordon.
8)Joe Smith- Smith has better scoring talents than jor-done and is a
better defender.
9)Anfernee Hardaway- Penny is quicker and better than jor-done ,passes
the ball, and rebounds better. Last season in the playoffs, Penny
dominated jordone and the bullies.
10)Shaquille O'neal- enough said.
11)Rasheed Wallace- Rasheed has better passing, scoring, and rebounding
skills than jor-done.
12)Karl Malone-Karl is a more consistent scorer than jor-done, and is
great in rebounding.
13)Derrick Coleman-Coleman is poised for a big season, and will display
much more of his unlimited potential and make jor-done look clumsy and
foolish.
14)Latrell sprewell- Spree has better scoring talents than jor-done, and
if he didn't have great scorers on his tem such as Chris Mullin and Tim
Hardaway and etc., he could have averaged 30 ppg this season and do it
year after year.
15)Shwan Kemp- Kemp has a better power game than jor-done and is great in
passing,rebounding,stealing and shooting.
16)David Robinson-Robinson had a higher ppg average last season than
jor-done and a much better field goal percentage.

the list goes on and on, so don't count on jor-done as being the best
player because there are better players than him.

Best NBA Teams:
1)The SUPERKNICKERBOCKERS are the best team in the NBA. They have the
best defensive, rebounding, scoring, and clutch play skills, and are very
underrated. The referees don't like their style of play because the
Knicks' style makes a winning combination and makes other teams suffer
and lose, so the referees are hard on the Knicks and make many unfair calls.
2)Orlando Magic is a better team than Chicago and will crush them year
after year in the playoffs.
3)Detroit Pistons ,led by the great Grant Hill, will be a much better
defending and scoring team and will slaughter the Bullies this season.
4)Golden State Warriors have future scoring champion Joe Smith,Spree,
Mullin, and Hardaway.Oh man Imagine what the bench is like.If the Bulls
ever cross their path , the bulls will suffer much.
5)Houston Rockets are defending champions and have many weapons, such as
three-pointers,rebounding, scoring, and defense, which are beyond
comparison when trying to compare them to the bull's weak weapons.
6)Washington Bullets-Mark Price? The vastly improved Gheorghe Muresan?
Juwan Howard? Future rebounding and scoring champion CHRIS WEBBER? Who
else? The bulls and jor-done certainly have big trouble.
7)Dallas Mavericks- Future scoring champs Jim Jackson and Jamal Mashburn?
Improved rebounder Popeye Jones? Improved point guard Jason Kidd?- who is
better than Magic Johnson? Look for them to sweep the bulls this season.

There are other teams that are better than the bulls, but these teams
aforementioned are the most powerful. So the Bulls aren't going anywhere
this season, and jor-done will remain hungry for another title for the
rest of his ballhogging career, and should retire because he can never be
the alltime career leader in anything because Shaquille O'neal has the
potential to be the all time leader in points scored and probably
rebounding, Mutombo in blocks, Jason Kidd in assists, John Stockton in
steals, Mark Price in free throws made, and Glenn Robinson, Grant Hill,
Shaquille O'neal or Kevin Garnett in alltime NBA Highest career scoring
average. So, before the 95-96 season begins, it can be said that
jor-done and the bulls are finished and will lose more than gain, and
jordon should retire because his career scoring average is going to dip
below 30ppg because there are better defenders than him and quicker
players than him. John Starks, the greatest shooting guard in history,
will make jordon look foolish and weak, and make jordon to miss most of
his shots.

Subject: Conspiracy Theory

The David Stern conspiracy theory against the New York Knicks
Started in 1992.

The Knicks were playing the Bulls in the playoffs. For six games, the knicks were all over the Bulls. They gave the Bulls all that they could handle. The X-Man was giving Scottie bytchin hell on D, plus scoring 18-17 points in that series. Oak was setting the hardest picks I've ever seen. Ewing was coming through in the clutch whern we needed him most, and Starks's clothesline established him as a tough defender.

David let this go on for six games because this was becoming a
huge rivalry, and the TV ratings were enormous. But after six games, he
and his refs decided enough was enough, and continued with the script.

After Jordan won the championship, he told his agent, David Faulk, that if they played the Knicks again, their physical style of D would definitely prevail. Scottie bytchin was pissing in his pants at the very sight of the X-Man. So Mr. Faulk, who was also X-Man's agent, listened to his meal ticket and proptly got Xavier out of New York. Two years, three no-calls on Charles Smith, a JoJo English bodyslam, and a Hakeem block of a sure three-pointer by Starks later, the Knicks have still not won the title. Believing that in the current state of the NBA, the Knicks and Riley would surely find a way to become champs, David Stepped in and made some changes to "improve offense".

From the beginning, it was obvious that these changes were going
to be another obstacle to the Knicks. But based on David's past actions,
He is exposing himself as a Knick-hater and a Phil Jackson stooge. All
he did was take everything that made the Knicks the Eastern Conference
Champs, and turned them into fouls. And he justified it in the name of
"more offense."

So far in the young season, the more offense he's getting is from
the free-throw line. That's an excellent way to make the game more
exciting. So now instead of hard nosed, New York playground-styled
defense (the way the game is supposed to be played), he's getting Manute
Bol launching threes, and ugly-ass Sam Cassell knifing through the lane and not be touched (c'mon Knick fans, you know you wanted Oak or Mase to spend a flagrant on him). The only good thing that has come out of this whole thing, is Jamal Mashburn schooling Scottie bytchin for 50 points.

And even then, the crybaby Phil Jackson had to discredit his great game
by saying Hollins helped him out.

I predict that once this theory gets out to the public and David Stern is fully exposed, he will be forced to resign, and the NBA will
return to REAL basketball.
Just my two cents worth. All comments/flames welcome.

Subject: David Stern SUCKS

Why does he suck? Let me count the ways. First, has he responded in the press to what the players have been saying? No. Why? Who knows? Apparently he wants basketball to go the way of baseball and hockey. Just let the players get upset enough to strike.

What does he care. He loses nothing in the strike. In fact, he gets the
spotlight, which he obviously craves. Look at him during the draft night
celebrationarama. And everybody knows how much he likes a show. That's why he rigged the draft for Charlotte back-to-back and then Orlando back-to-back.

This guy knows nothing about running a major sports league. He's going to run the NBA into the ground over the stupid salary cap just when things could be booming.

Crazy, but the groups were mad exclusive back then, I guess you can't blame them for having their real names out there in those groups.
