Football death is 3rd in recent days

ELWOOD, N.Y. -- A high school football player has died after he collided with an opponent and collapsed during a game on Long Island, becoming the third high school football player to die in recent days.

Authorities say Tom Cutinella, a player for Shoreham-Wading River High School, died Wednesday night at a hospital after suffering a head injury during a game with John Glenn High School in Elwood earlier that day.

A school district spokeswoman told Newsday that Cutinella had been in the intensive-care unit after undergoing surgery.

Suffolk County police said the collision happened about 6 p.m. ET. Cutinella, a guard/linebacker, was injured during the third quarter of the varsity game.

Dozens of relatives, teammates and friends waited at the hospital for an update on his condition. As news of his death spread, two people fell to the floor weeping.

Cornerback Demario Harris Jr. of Charles Henderson High School in Troy, Alabama, died Sunday after collapsing on the field Friday following a tackle.

According to AL.com, coach Brad McCoy said a neurologist told him that the player had ruptured an aneurysm in his brain. However, according to the report, the player's father, Demario Harris Sr., said in a Facebook post that the teen had suffered a brain hemorrhage caused by a hit in the game.

crazy story, as much as I love football, if I have sons they won't be playing it. Call it reactionary or whatever you want. I can think back to a time when I was 12-13 years old playing, had a head on collision with a LB and just saw a white flash after point of contact. Talked to dude after practice and he told me the same thing, neither of us knew what happened on the play, just went back to the huddle and lined up for the next snap. And this is before our bodies developed, imagine being 200+ pounds, doing that week after week. That's some scary stuff to think about in hindsight

Word. Thats why I hate reading all the "duhh of course its dangerous, everyone knows the risks" comments that try to deflect the criticism. NOBODY knew the risks when we were younger. We didn't know what a concussion was and coaches didn't explain it. We assumed the helmets and pads were protecting us from the risks. Broken bones, joint and spinal injuries were always there. But long term brain damage? Thats new...

Told this story on here before but it happened again this weekend...

11 year old Pee-Wee game this weekend...Two EMS ambulances were brought on the 50 yard line to take off non responsive kids.. It's becoming so routine the older they get..And this is a weight regulated league.. My son doesn't know it yet but this is his last year playing...It's a shame too because he's really talented and its taught him structure and discipline..But it's time he focuses on track and field and join his sister with the round ball on that hard wood...

Why am I tagged

As I said in the CTE thread

Football will end because of mothers and science not because of soccer and basketball

I have neve denied the hazards of football

Remember I'm the one who made the thread "football is stupid"

The thing is mothers only really care if it's their kid.. B1tches aint sh1t for the most part...It bothered me last weekend when those kids were laying lifeless on the field, grown women and mothers were laughing and joking, goofing around on their iphones, eating pop corn and carrying on on the sideline just feet away...I had to say something to a couple of them because they still don't grasp the seriousness of the situation..It might be because none of them have ever played before so they are so detached... That's what let me know its time to move on to something else because the mentality around the sport is so callus..EMS is dragging non responsive kids away and its become so common place that people don't even stop their conversations to pay attention...And the ref blows the whistle and starts the game again the split second the Ambulance drives off the turf.. They don't even wait for it to leave the parking lot...

Lawyers will kill the sport way before mothers...
