Sampling laws changed hip-hop. The 'golden era' should've been called the 'sample era' cause damn near everybody was sampling 3-4 tracks per song and shyt.

Which may be why most tracks this decade that have lasting power are in fact samples of something else, old or new. But since you get sued out the ass for sampling and there isn't that much money in music, you get what you have today.
