All that time bobbing and weaving he was waiting to counter and slipped the left hook in there, it is called "Sweet Science" for a reason.....

I love (:dame:) hearing Mike just talking about about the technique of boxing. He can see things with his fighters eye before the average breh

he was timing dude's punches. he knew it was just a matter of time.

this interview and his response was the benefit of hindsight. tyson lost precisely because of what he mentioned in the response. to him yes it was an illusion, but to the opponent it was reality. he won many fights before the fight ever began. the reason he lost was bc he fought someone that was not intimidated at all. and then once that aura of invincibility is gone, people are always more vulnerable.

I don't know if DK is to blame, but I agree that firin' Rooney was the beginnin' of the end.

Tyson was an excellent student of boxin', but he needed the instruction more than some. And he absorbed & used it better than most. Without it, he was never the same. He rode out on athletic ability and power which wasn't enough to beat the best.

Sad. His name should be right next to Ali's.
I give him most of the blame. He prayed on Mike's fragile mind and pretty much used him and clouded his judgment. Robin played a role too. Damn shame. Mike could have and should've have been the undisputed greatest of all time

The biggest lie is that Tyson only won because of the intimidation factor. As if he never had any skills.

Prime, young Mike Tyson was one of the greatest of all time at closing distance, among other abilities

I remember watching I think it was "Tyson" or whatever documentary he came out with a while back. He said he was one of the few if not the only heavyweight at the time who was looking at how welterweights fought and modeled his style after them instead of other heavyweights. It explains why he has a much more nimble style than most heavyweights who mostly rely on knockout power only.

My thoughts exactly. Had the potential to be the greatest, but pure talent doesn't get you there. Still my favorite boxer of all time though.

It's tough. He was young with little family influence, so no one but himself to look after his best interest. But those decisions were still his. I doubt DK had the power to choose his trainers. And the WORLD tried to tell him Robin Givens was the devil.

But no doubt, he had the potential to be the greatest. Only Ali had a comparable skill set as a heavyweight, IMO, and I'd give it to Tyson.

Where did I say he didn't have any skills? Of course he did. No one with half an ounce of brains would say that. But you can't deny that intimidation plays a huge role in how opponents will react.

To me a good comparison is Fedor the MMA legend. He had an aura of invincibility combined with legit skills/toughness. But once that aura is shattered it can never be put back together.

it was lightweights... he was looking at lightweights because their style is so sporadic
