Dude and his stans thought he was the after that battle but shyt sold like 118k first week. Blew all that good will after his W and aint been looked at on that level ever since. 2002 was a bad year for Nas

Sit down, goofy. It sold 156,000 on a short week because it got leaked. It sold more in the second week.

Nas greatness never been defined by record sales. Camel stans like you only bring up sales when it's in your favor. When anyone start comparing Hov to Pac or BIG, suddenly sales and hit singles don't matter no more.

Nas was on his Pac shyt that year. He did burn bridges especially calling out payola. It's wild he had a couple big hits on rap radio every time he dropped until he called that out

But he also went a flagrant anti commercial direction 2004-2008. Regardless what you think of the quality of the songs. Bridging The Gap, Just A Moment, HHID and Can't Forget About You was totally out if step with everything that was hot in that era. But for real, who cares? His 1994-2002 solidified him. Dude dropped Stillmatic, Lost Tapes and God's Son in 12 months. He could have retired after that and been top 10.

SD was definitely released and scanned as a double album. Everyone knows that.

Sony refused to promote the album, and Nas wanted off of Columbia, so he did the album as a double to fulfill his contract quicker and hop off the label. They said because the album didn't sell, so he didn't recoup. That's when Jay and LA Reid stepped in and helped to get Nas over to Def Jam. Columbia still wanted their money, so Def Jam let them eat off of the bread that was made on HHID. That's how Nas was able to be done with Columbia/Sony.

SD sold over 700,000 at double album prices. That's actual Soundscan copies sold, not shipped.

That double album shyt is only RIAA with their gold and platinum certifications. Which is funny because Def Jam significantly overshipped Kingdom Come and American Gangster for plaques, but Hovengers don't want to talk about that.

Same way they love to brag about Reasonable Doubt going gold after 2 months, because they printed up and shipped 500,000 copies immediately. But it took years to actually that much. There's a reason it went out of print for like two years, and it ain't because the album was selling

And these same dudes will tell you BP2 was a hot album that sold over 3 million copies. Because it's triple platinum. When really it's a double album they printed up 1.5 million copies and shipped that out the gate.

But they quick to call out funny business when it come to Streets Disciple going platinum. That album had no commercial appeal and was selling at a higher price, not one of Nas better albums but did alright for what it was.
