I didn’t think he was gonna turn but I do remember being weirded out by how he kept emphasizing that how NEEDED to beat the Rock

Austin's heel turn was so telegraphed that having him not turn would have been the swerve. If you watch the build up and don't think that's obviously leading to Austin turning heel to win the title (the Vince part maybe you wouldn't see coming), idk if you've ever seen pro wrestling television before.

As a kid I didn't understand why I was supposed to hate stone cold for doing bad guy shyt when he was always doing heel shyt. I didn't have anyone to root for because i didn't like the other faces more than him.

WWE in 2001 wasn't all that entertaining either, I preferred 2002 after all the corny invasion shyt.
