He’s legit horrible at hooks and choruses. But this is allegedly a “classic” rap album :mjlol:
Some of them shyts are legit grating to the ear.

Dude has a cult fanbase on here he can’t do no wrong.

He’s fortunate he came out in 2006 as a “breath of fresh air” and with the co-signs and affiliations he did.

An album like Black On Both Sides badly shyts on Food & Liquor.

Food & Liquor along with The Cool are classics to me. Tetsuo & Youth and Drogas Wave are some amazing albums. And I like Drill Music In Zion. His other albums have some joints on them. But those 5 are my favorite.

The breath of fresh air thing was funny because there was no new ground he was covering topic wise

Solid 4 mic album. The OG version was a 4.5

But that album was very good for it’s time. There was a bunch of garbage dropping that year. Remember, this was right around the time Jay dropped Kingdom Come and Nas dropped Hip Hop is Dead. Everybody was at a critical low.

1.)If it’s a “classic” what are classic rap songs? Kick push that’s about it :patrice:

2.)I don’t think you know what revisionist history is :patrice:
A classic album with one classic song :russ:

The majority of the album is mediocre marred by bad beats and hooks which can’t be overlooked because of themes/substance, concepts, and lyricism

Ain’t no way these nikkas jamming in 2023 to these cheap ass beats and WWE entrance music status hooks. Like you said the shyt he was rapping about was already covered by other MC’s years prior and stylistically he was bringing nothing new to the table as an MC son was saying “uhh uhh uhh”, “cheaaaaa”, and whisper flowing on this shyt in the 90’s you’d lose mics off unoriginality alone even if musically dope and this album is not musically dope because of the aforementioned issue of hooks and beats. Lupe is also lackluster vocally and presence wise on tracks for example when Jay Z starts rapping on Pressure there’s a noticeable difference.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
I never saw the hype of his preF&L shyt because I held it in such high regard

Been a while since I listened, but, it's still classic

It was good, not gonna scoff at anyone calling it a classic but It's like his...third or best album in hindsight.
In hindsight, prolly...

If we are going to keep it all the way real in this thread Lupe is a great mixtape rapper(randomly rhyming over other peoples picked classic beats) but not great at actually creating his own projects.

The only reason He doesn’t get the same criticism as other guys in this lane because he raps about the “right” things on his studio albums

Bootleg version was better. And yes the album is weighed down by some horrible hooks. Production was fine for the most part

I appreciate and listen to it more times now than I ever anticipated. If anything, it's gotten better with time for me.
