Looking back KRS One dissing Nelly was one of the dumbest things ever in Hip Hop History

nelly wasnt as much of a a pop rapper as youre painting him. he wasnt on the same tip as say a black eyed peas, flo-rida or pitbull. especially back when this beef was going on and the only albums he had out were country grammar(which was pretty hood) & the lunatics jawn.

he had more black fans than white. most of them may not have been hip-hop heads but they were definitely black.

or at the very least, his base was an equal distribution of races. he was an everybody rapper. he had a fanbase within every racial & social background. but i'd still say its majority black.

i always wondered who he was talking about on #1, and i found it weird how he referenced BDP on the hook even tho KRS most-likely didnt f*ck wit em.

then the "roc da mic" remix drops a few months later and im like "dam, he mustve dissed krs on the #1" joint.

We not gonna be able to really prove it without the numbers, but Nelly's majority fan base was white not black, though he had some black fans, that was not here core demographic at all...

I don't know what KRS did was hip hop and dudes want to laugh but at the end of the day KRS will be in the history books and can still do shows over seas and people will know his lyrics. Nelly fell off 6 years into his career and would be associated with the real husbands of hollywood

KRS put himself in his own coffin going after Nelly. He was huffing and puffing only to make hoimself look irrelevant when his boycott failed. You call a boycott and dude goes on to sell 6 mil...u are irrelevant. After that situation the south took over Hip Hop. I love KRS but that moment was the biggest black eye to his career. He pointed at Shan and some others said they were the real artists and dissed KRS/BDP and THAT'S why he dissed those specific members, and it was someone from the Juice Crew side that said that by the way.

black folks were indeed his core demographic. just not neccessarily the serious hip-hop crowd - which is a minority, and i think youre grouping the both of them together.

he had pop appeal & elements that reasonated with white folks, so they hopped on it too. but they werent the target audience aside from certain songs.

he was basically the 2000s ll cool j without the skills & the b-boy background.
