Looking back, why did mad people clown Nas and his overall outlook post-Stillmatic?

I don’t think they were hating, but rappers tried to use his intelligence as a diss which is dumb as fukk & only happens in rap

bytch say “weezy make it rain” I say bytch I ain’t god

but I am god’s son but you know I ain’t Nas

see he got a positive aim, and I aim 9’s

Can’t lie those bars were cold as fukk tho :lolbron:. Prime Wayne :wow:

He was the true King of NY, it just that a lot of street dudes shytted on his intelligence and his subject matter. Jim Jones said that he would slap his Kufi off for simply displaying his intelligence.

I'm listening to old interviews back after Nas TKO Jigga in late 2001/early 02, and mad people clowned him for being "kufi bright" and "Nas love the kids, I'm on that killa shyt" for growing up and dropping relevant topics on his songs. Even Uncle Murda and Maino took shots at Nas for "I Can" years after it dropped, simply cause he wanted a better outlook for black children. Now looking back nearly 2 decades later, why did Hip Hop accept that crabbish behavior?

I think the only ones doing it had beef with him. And they did mainly for two reasons. 1) To make him look soft for being so positive while they was on some fake street shyt ala Jim Jones running into him several times and shying away from the kufi:mjlol: 2)They know they not as nice with the pen so they dumb it down and say he's too lyrical. He's a rapper and they're gangstas that happen to rap. Yet years later ALL of them been confessing their love for NaS. Every last single one of them stans:mjgrin:

Yeah, but the rap game was crabbish as hell going after Nas TKO The Camel. And Even G Unit said that Nas can't measure to Banks :mjlol: . To be honest, most rappers would have crumbled under that pressure.

Jay decided to shyt on Nas for at the time in his career was his most politically driven album. So some rappers followed suit.

“'Cause the nikka wear a kufi, it don't mean that he bright
'Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice
It just means you don't understand all the bullshyt that he write
Is it Oochie Wally Wally or is it One Mic?
Is it Black Girl Lost or shorty owe you for ice?”

What’s funny is that nothing Nas said on Stillmatic and past albums was overall complex and incomprehensible.

"Politically driven" and "serious" albums are no excuse for forgettable to bad beats, and questionable concepts. The problem with those albums is that they largely lack the type of classic tracks or bangers that made his earlier albums great or memorable. Nobody is going to a Nas concert to hear tracks from HHID or Untitled. Or SD outside of maybe 1-2 songs (on a double album).

Three straight albums with questionable beats and songs. That hurts. Some would add God's Son but I like the album overall and it at least had hits and bangers that still resonate to this day.

I can tell you probably started listening to rap when Kanye released MBDTF. People were dissing Nas before those albums were even released.02-03 Your opinion on Nas is trash if you think an album like Untitled was made with concert goers in mind. You a Kendrick groupie but that album (TPAB) didn’t have concerts n mind when he crafted it. I’ve seen Jay live 3 times the past 5 years and zero tracks from AG get performed but it’s easily a top 4 Jay album. So what are you talking about?

Stillmatic was politically driven but that album got 5 mics. Tracks like Thieves Theme, Nazerath Savage, Hero, Black Republicans, can’t forget about you, etc would do fine at a Nas concert.

Again you a mis informed casual who wasn’t around back in 01 and just go off internet cliches and stereotypes to influence your predictable opinion.

This

And generally speaking, any artist with the volume of work Nas has is not really performing songs from an album 7 even if that album was successful. They will tour off of it, but at a regular concert, an artist is mainly performing fan favorites and hits. Most of those are going to come from the front end of their career.
