is there a year where jay completely dominated ?

Let's see...

'96- we had Pac and The Fugees, so no on that one

'97- we had Biggie and Puff, so no on that one

'98- we had Lauryn, but some consider her R&B. With that said, we had DMX. This was Jay's peak, but he and X were tied at best. Many give the edge to X.

'99- we had Eminem, but did he dominate? This one just might go to Jay just based off the joints he had out and then droppin' at the end of '99. Again, there was also X and Dr. Dre.

'00- we had Eminem and Nelly, so no on that one

'01- we had Ja Rule

'02- Eminem and Nelly dominated again

'03- This was 5-0 and Kast

'04- he was retired

'05- he was retired

'06- belonged to T.I.

'07- belonged to Kanye and Wayne

'08- Wayne & T.I.

'09- we have winner. Eminem dropped Relapse, but it wasn't really dominant like that. Meanwhile, Jay Z was all over the radio with "Run This Town" and "Empire State of Mind". "D.O.A." was also in rotation. "On To The Next One" carried it over into 2010.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
The video

It was such a desperate plea for acceptance by "mainstream" America and a complete rejection of the people and culture that got him to that point

Plus the song was overproduced and not one of Jay's best performances

So yea I feel embarrassed thinking about the song... from every angle I look at it it falls short... but thats to be expected as the lead single on what is arguably Jay's worst disc

Imo, The American Gangster title-track was his re-take on that beat on some "phuck it I'mma murder this-shyt"

Now they wanna do ya boy like Mike in his prime
Billie Jean the goddamn boy ain't mine
And the Roc break up, had the people losing hope
Can't lie they had Muhammad Hovi on the ropes
Now I'm back in the go mode, back in the go-go's
Throwing the diamond up, repping the logo
Rose gold rose flow, I'm okay though
What Don't kill me makes stronger than before so
Here we go and I'm not domino
When it all falls down, I'm like Kanye's jaw
I might break but I don't fold, till I hold the sky in my hand
Yeah that's my goal

He murked that shyt something serious :whew:

Cause at that same time in Fall 2006, Jim Jones had a little single called "ballin" that tore up the charts and created a phenomenon. Sad to say, bum ass Jimmy outshadowed Jigga in terms of a hit single. :russ:
Jim was #5 and Jay #8.

Jay was also played world wide and on white stations, but he was not selling as much.
So as far as airwaves went, I doubt that Jim over shadowed Jay in any type of way. Urban radio and ringtone sales, yes he was #1 and jay #2 for a month.

Dope and successful single.. Not an empire state of mind but it did well.
Jay-z is not known for relying on pop singles, never was. BP3 was probably the first time in which he really went all out to score real big.

Willacoochee, Ga
that song got so much promo tho...was in all those commercials..if anything they killed it by early over-saturation.

not my fav Jay song but it was still a moment of glory for the most part...the waves were kinda corny but oh well.
