It is tough. I just went back after being off for 5 months. Go with a recruiting firm if you can. I ended up in a pretty nice company and from interview to start date was 2 weeks at the most. Other than that, you'll have to just network where you can. Re-work your resume too...change the format and only put pertinent job duties that were relevant to the position you're applying for.

Once you reformat it...re-apply for the jobs that you really wanted because for the most part they don't even look at the name on a resume until after the initial screening.

Here's some advice.

1. You need to adjust your cover letter/resume to the job. Even if it's just small things like naming the position/company in your cover letter and resume.
2. Also look at the requirements in the job posting and just try to mimic what it says. If it wants communication skills, quick thinker then make sure those are on your resume.
3. Make sure you call and follow up. Almost every interview that I ever got was because of this.
4. Good luck:obama:

man... a job is a job. :lolbron: even at mcdonalds.

and job hopping isn't a good idea either. employers won't hire you if they see that you can't stay at a job for a decent period without a valid reason.

Too late. I've had more than 20 different jobs over about a six year period.

If you submit a resume, submit a cover letter. Too many people don't do this. Make it personal, and hopefully be a good writer. Don't make it drawn out, but at least keep it a little engaging, tailor it to your skills and how they'd fit the position etc.

I'm always filling out applications because I job hop like a motherfukker on these minimum wage to $10/hour jobs. I got an interview at McDonald's tomorrow (why they'd ever need to "interview" someone is beyond me) - I plan to work there for about five weeks and quit.

The fact that the underlined is beyond explains why you're making on the order of $10/hr... especial considering your last sentence

The job market is all kinds of fukked up. You know it's bad when they have a sweepstakes where the prize is a job at fukkign DOMINO'S!

Man, I'm in the same boat. Finally had it with my job and quit at the end of last month. I've had a couple of interviews but most of my applications turn up with nothing. I keep a long list with all the jobs I applied to and anything related to them.
I know it's not recommended to quit without securing another job but I rather leave with some sanity than stay and fukkin' lose it. :manny:

You said that like a diss. I job hop because I want to.

For example, I got five job offers over the last week. I accepted all of them. :shaq2:
