That was before his character got going...the world listened when he stole the show every week as the Rock. And it wasn't comedy..it was the way he said it that made it seem comical. It's called charisma and he bleeds it. So u can take all those gay ass serious promos like Charlotte does and the like and breathe off it because it won't draw one dime.

Not sad at all. Pretty sure it wasn't done from Hollywood. Was from his house and its a dialed up, unscripted version of the promo he cut two weeks after he returned really. Think Rock was legit here and was tired of the criticism and wanted to shut it down. To me, the promo wars died here. And the feud started looking real odd from this point on.
All of this plus some other placements like his promo at Mania 19 and 2000. Or first time face to face with Hogan. Rock was always cutting serious and gritty promos. Hes actually underrated in this aspect. Everyone is so hung up on what makes him, him. With the jokes and catchphrases that they forget he was actually one of the better serious talkers of all time. Hes not regarded as one of the best mic workers only because of the joke style hes known for. Rock always delivered when his back was against the wall or if it came time for some real serious talk. Thats why all of those examples you listed are A1. Those were some intense feuds.
Even in recent years Rock has some. A few vs Punk and Cena in 2013. Its why I liked the promos between Rock/Cena in 2013 > 2012. The shoot style they kept trying to force upon the first feud was cringey imo.
