This is how the court system works. They're so backlogged it takes years to go to trial which is why they push so hard for defendants to take deals.

IDK it wasn’t like he was some in demand talent. He already had his role on Empire reduced before the incident and Fox use it as an excuse to end the series. It will be a while and unless his sister does something he will be TV one/bounce for life

For the record, what happened to Empire wasn't on him. The show lost its luster from bad writing (that's putting it nicely) and Fox execs used his situation as an excuse to cancel the show, which is what they wanted to do anyways.
