Los Angeles Mayor Wants To House Illegal Children, Not American Ones
http://thoughtcatalog.com/james-b-b...-to-house-illegal-children-not-american-ones/

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is reaching out to non-profits to arrange housing for the many Central American children who’ve crossed into the U.S. over the last few months where they can wait to see if they’ll be allowed to stay in the country.

“It’s kind of a slap in the face to U.S. citizens.”
Garcetti’s meeting resistance though in the form of Los Angeles homeless advocates who point out that the city already has a homeless population of children and youth that nears 9,000, many of who can’t even stay in shelters because they aren’t 18.

The Mayor, a staunch advocate for immigration reform, had this to say today regarding what’s become an ever growing problem:

“Before you get partisan, before you tell me where you are on immigration, these are children. As a father, who are we as Americans if we do not step forward first?” Garcetti asked, noting, “I see this as not just a moral issue but as a practical one.”

“These kids who are isolated, alone. Maybe are doing the right thing, maybe have made mistakes. Forget all that first,” Garcetti said. “Let’s get them some place safe and secure. Let’s get them legal representation, which is what this country has always stood for.”

But Ted Hayes, a Los Angeles homeless advocate opposes the mayor’s plans to use non-profit resources to house children who have crossed into the U.S. illegally.

“It’s kind of a slap in the face to U.S. citizens,” Hayes said. “It’s embarrassing. It’s hurtful. Because it’s like a father saying that he loves children outside of the family more than he loves his own.”

“We feel for them,” Hayes continued. “We feel their pain. But we are feeling pain of our own children first.”

Los Angeles has a child and youth homeless population of nearly 9,000 and a total homeless population estimated at over 57,000. It is sometimes said by those who aren’t in favor of immigration reform that those that are care more about undocumented immigrants/illegal aliens than they do American citizens. If anything, Garcetti’s statements today will only further entrench that belief

What should we do with thousands of kids who crossed the border illegally? Shouldn't we atleast house them until we sort things out?

I mean politics aside. What is the practical thing to do here?

Send them back. If anything happens to them, fine it will discourage people from sending illegal kids.

California drought: New water restrictions carry penalty of up to $500

SACRAMENTO -- As California on Tuesday imposed its first-ever statewide rules to punish water wasters, a new survey showed why state officials say the drastic measures are needed: Californians actually increased their water use amid the worst drought in decades.

The new rules, approved by the State Water Resources Control Board on a 4-0 vote, impose new restrictions on outdoor water use starting Aug. 1 that could result in fines of up to $500 per violation.

Gov. Jerry Brown in January asked Californians to slash their water use by 20 percent. But a new state survey released Tuesday showed that water use in May rose by 1 percent this year, compared with a 2011-2013 May average.

The survey of 267 water providers by the water board found that water consumption in the Bay Area dropped 5 percent. But in coastal California, south of Santa Barbara, consumption rose 8 percent.

"California is in the worst drought we've seen in our grandparents' generation or beyond," said Felicia Marcus, the water board's chairwoman. "Fields are going fallow. Thousands of people are going to be out of work. There are communities that are out of water -- they're bathing out of buckets and water trucks are coming in to help them.

"But many parts of California don't seem to realize how bad it is," she said, "because they are so far away from their source of water. We are all in this together, and this is not a time to waste water."

The new rules ban washing cars without a nozzle on a hose; watering driveways or sidewalks; using potable water in ornamental fountains; and over-watering landscaping so that water runs off into roads and adjacent properties. Recycled water is exempt.

Under the new statewide rules, any agency that does not impose mandatory conservation measures could be subject to state fines of up to $10,000 a day. But it remained unclear Tuesday whether local agencies will be able to keep in place rules that don't include enforcement or penalties.

it should never get to the point where you have to house them, they should be deported immediately and obama needs to stop listening to la raza and promising amnesty to everybody, that is what started the problem

That's a pretty :demonic: opinion.

Endanger children's lives because of politics, brehs.

their lives are already endangered by people telling them that they will get amnesty in the us, that is what started the mess

barry and la raza promising things to illegals is what is :demonic:

i tried to tell barry if you give an inch they will take a foot.....well here is the foot

but anyways deportees are handed over to their government, its their government's responsibility to take care of them
