‘Cruising’ is but one of the best at showcasing the grimey streets of 80s NYC and ‘Killer Joe’ has the gross-out white trashiness of this, both directed by the late William Friedkin.

‘Blood Simple’ from the Coens and ‘At Close Range’ could scratch that rural neo-noir itch.
