This has been the case for a very long time. After his original injury where he cut that promo saying something like “I injured my knee under the weight of carrying this company”, he wasn’t lying. I think that may have been the same day where they had been using all these redemption/rehabbing vids that was building sympathy with the crowd, and then they had Rollins continue to be heel

Before all this, crowd turned on him. The Messiah thing was just fone to keep his push going strong.
