The Lawrence Taylor-Boomer Esiason feud continues to rage with Deion Sanders and Dan Marino firing away too on The NFL Today Sunday.
Esiason ripped Taylor, the former New York Giants star who was the subject of a controversial interview on 60 Minutes Sunday night, on CBS Thanksgiving Day and on his WFAN radio show Friday. The former quarterback said Taylor, who reveals drug and sex escapades from his playing days in his new book L.T.: Over The Edge, was a disgrace.
Taylor roared back in Sunday's New York Post: "He sounds like an opportunist with some kind of agenda. Maybe he should read the doggone book instead of going out of his way to be controversial -- at my expense. I didn't start this. But I've got too much pride to sit here and let the public think this guy has a clue."
CBS promoted the 60 Minutes segment on The NFL Today, leading to more fireworks from Esiason, Sanders and Marino.
Esiason said he had a "lot of issues" with the Taylor piece.
"This is not the NFL that I played in," the former Jets and Bengals quarterback said. "He [Taylor] talks about how he circumvented the NFL's drug testing policy by using other players' urine. That is an affront. The fact that he shouldn't even been playing because he would have failed the drug test in the first place ... I have a 12-year-old at home. He wants to ask me about what is crack cocaine?"
That prompted Sanders to jump in: "Your 12-year-old doesn't know what crack cocaine is? He doesn't watch TV?"
Esiason: "Crack cocaine is an illegal substance and it's one that we in the inner city and the suburbs should be taking more ... we have to listen to this? I'm sorry, I don't have time for it."
Sanders: "You can't talk about a situation unless, I think, you're in it. I'm sorry I sit on the podium with a couple guys who have been naive and don't understand."
That got Marino started.
"Why are you saying I'm naive?" the former Dolphins quarterback asked.
"No, no, don't tell me you don't know what goes on in the NFL," Sanders said. "You don't know that guys get high and guys do everything up under the sun. Twenty-year-old or 30-year-old guys with millions of dollars -- that equals destruction. So you can't sit up here and tell me that you were immune to that stuff, your kid has never heard of drugs or marijuana or crack cocaine?"
"That's the message here," Marino said. "If you have a kid or a young guy, tell them to watch the piece because that's not what you want to be. You do not want to be in the situation here when his life was totally screwed up. And I'm not naive."

Sanders took another shot: "We didn't do anything ... [when we played]? I did a lot of things that I'm not proud of. And I admit to it. Some people didn't do anything. I'm so fortunate to sit up here with guys that never done anything wrong."
