I can understand why they have a long delay between the tapings and putting the shows on TV due to production and editing. But forcing people to wait even longer for shows that already have been taped and completed is .

I think it might have to do with the make or break of season 4. In an interview not too long ago Van Wagenen (main producer) said that a fourth season pretty much requires them to start making actual touring/merchandise profits of the show. I think that's why this season in particular there have been a lot of new faces and indie talent appearing, because they have more leeway with them than they do with the hired AAA talent. This is their way of stalling for time hoping they can set something up (and also possibly get some new network/distribution deals).
