We're missing the big picture. If we're discussing inequality, oppression, and racism, then our fight is with the system. We should be challenging the philosophy known as democracy. Yes, it's what the United States promotes as what makes this nation great. In actuality, democracy is racism's greatest weapon. People go on and on about white privilege and white supremacy, but what gives whites "privilege" and "supremacy"? It isn't something that's inherent. It's not their skin color that gives them privilege. It is the doctrine known as democracy, which gives rule to the majority that gives them an advantage that minorities don't have. Therefore, there's inequality at level from education, to economics, to justice. It's why police officers to can gun down a black man and not face repercussions. It's why black men get more time for killing whites than vice versa.
Self-respect is a great start, but let's not get it twisted. We should respect ourselves not because we want acceptance from whites, but because we love who we are as individuals. Our worth shouldn't be based on what somebody else thinks. Whether a person is wearing a hoodie or a suit, they should be respected. Whether a person works as a garbage man or is the CEO of a fortune 500 company, they should be respected regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity.
If we're really going to take out there, calling out individuals isn't going to get us anywhere. The real war is challenging everything that allows racism to exist. The Constitution and democracy need to be challenged. We need people that are not only going to point out the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in this nation's actions vs. what's written in those doctrines, and come up with ways that benefit those who are not of the majority. Because you can pretty much guarantee there will be a time when whites won't be the majority and will HAVE TO relinquish that privilege and will feel the brunt of being a minority.
