I feel Lupe’s still fixated on resurrection and changing perceptions, distilling the essence of T&Y and DW into a few songs. We remember Ahmaud Arbery and Peter Gellatly similar to how we were reminded of Jonylah Watkins and Alan Kurdi. Just before we go any further on this path of destruction, he recontextualizes the exploitation in modeling and unhealthy competition for shoes into more positive images of self-respect and unity. Virgil’s contributions are in the same vein, treating something man-made as dangerous at first to suddenly, all good. Even the process of how this all started with LF95, in which Lupe jokingly stole one of Kaelin’s beats on twitter and that soon lead to a whole project together. Said track is one most of us had heard already, but a little fresher with extra bars and an outro. The album cover depicts Phillip Johnson’s Glass House, who lived inside of it for 50+ years after its construction. Maybe this is the alternative to the beginning, repeat the history of Johnson during this pandemic before we repeat the history of the dinosaurs.

Just finished a live Q&A with Kaelin Ellis, jotted down the most interesting stuff:

- Lupe compares Kaelin’s beats to Soundtrakk’s, because they both create an atmosphere for him to perform, instead of overwhelming him to the point that only the beat matters
- EP organically came together, didn’t really set out to make a whole project
- Recorded in 2 weeks or less
- DINOSAURS is Lupe’s favorite song, SLEDOM is Kaelin’s favorite song
- Kaelin first heard Lupe on Catch Me I’m Ballin (Dirty Harry) from NBA 2k7 and Kick, Push from NBA Live 07
- Not to be confused with one takes, because Lupe admits to punching in, but he didn’t write down most of the lyrics, maybe SLEDOM
- Kaelin’s still sending Lupe beats, so they might work again the future
- Potential video for DINOSAURS
- Other artists Kaelin would like to work with: Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs and Smino

The content of this EP reminds me of someone being bored in quarantine. What’s crazy is Lupe can take any subject, put it in a rap in way that is far superior to your average rapper. It makes me wonder what other elite rappers can come up with, when the subject is random......Overall, it’s a cool EP, shoes is probably my fave track. I gotta give it more spins, but off first listen....I wouldn’t be surprised if Lu freestyled most of this.
