he isn't. I swear i listen to his shyt and TRY to like it cuz at one point, I thought it was just me. I thought I was the only hip hop fan in amerikka who though this guy was severely overrated. I listen to a song like this and wonder why everyone think it's one of the greatest things ever and I don't.

i see what he's saying but i would retort by asking, why would punchline and double-entendre be the be-all end-all of lyricism? i see them as just a tool (among MANY others) within the craft of song-writing (which is what lyricism really is. song-writing). Cube and Scarface had some very direct lyrics a lot of times but are some of the best lyricists to ever do it in my humble opinion. They used words and delivery to evoke emotion masterfully. not everyone has to rap the same way with using the same styles and arsenal. I guess the bigger question is, is "lyricism" strictly about showing off how clever and witty you are with words?

I don't think he's wrong or dissing Kendrick, but you know what the media will say. Kendrick isn't a punchline rapper. Neither is Lupe, to be honest.
What do you prioritize? If you think punchlines and entendres are most important, you don't appreciate modern Kendrick (he used to do that shyt but shifted with the Kendrick Lamar LP). Lupe clearly says he's not a top tier rapper at those things, but the rest of his comments make it clear he thinks he's a top tier rapper at other things (storytelling) and is a dope rapper. I don't see the hate. He's more of a poetic rapper to me than anything.
