I don't know what's more contrived, your post or the song.

Whatevs

Ima big Lupe fan and been rocking with dude since the first FNF album, but you caping a little hard right now son.

Just saying what I believe.

Like the message...song is still not an enjoyable listen at all to me...the rap as modern minstrel show concept of the video is a lil overwrought and, dare i say, cliche...but executed well enough

Cliche in what way? Rappers make music videos and songs like this often?

Lupe is a blip on this rap shyt.

Not only is it easily the best Lupe Fiasco music video of all time, but possibly one of the best in the history of hip hop....maybe in music. Creative. Powerful. Necessary. Thought-provoking. Honest.

To simply call Lupe Fiasco arguably the best rapper alive is almost an insult at this point. He's transcended just being a gifted emcee. He's a teacher, a humanitarian and an incredibly courageous warrior for truth. I don't think he'll fully be appreciated until he retires and leaves a huge void behind.

I'm not surprised at all that a fan of his would say some dumb shyt like this. This song is some bullshyt. And comes across as a third party; nerd-rhetoric; lemme-spell-it-out; meta-piece column on black woman rather than an actual rap song. I honestly don't know how a black man can resonate with Lupe's music. At all.

Bad mean good to her, she really nice and smart
But bad mean bad to him, bytch don’t play your part
But bytch still bad to her if you say it the wrong way
But she think she a bytch, what a double entendre

Cliche in the sense that "Rap music is a modern day minstrel show" is one of the more oft-repeated critiques of the rap industry of the last decade or so...for at least however long that "c00ning" (in the modern context we use it in hip hop today) and "Mantan'ing" have been apart of the rap critic parlance...in the Post-Bamboozled era, it's one of the first concepts that pseudo-revolutionary types cling to after watching the Debra Lee episode of Boondocks and start making their first of endless BET denouncements...I mean after Little Brother put out The Minstrel Show, it's kinda hard to consider it uncharted territory or pushing creative boundaries or anything...which of course, is a ridiculous standard to hold a rapper to...just thought he kinda forced that concept into the video, where it doesn't necessarily go with the concept of the song (strictly speaking)...but despite that, well still pulled off well

edit: just saw somebody reply to mention it was the director's idea...which makes sense
