Underachiever? prolly...he was supposed to become what Kendrick is now.....Overrated on the coli? Naw, not a chance...his pre-lasers brilliance has began to be retroactively diminished (perception wise) by how negatively a lot of his stuff since has been received since

Interesting you bring up a Kendrick comparison...I was listening to Food & Liquor and realised their plights are near enough identical. Both from cities with deep gang history and culture, see it but don't touch it yet makes them who they are and express it well in their music with melody AND lyrical content.

Food & Liquor had some amazing songs, Kick Push, Daydreamin', He Say She Say, Sunshine, Americoooo Terroriiiiii, so does Good Kid as we all know. I thought Lupe mastered the art of keeping things relatively simple but still maintaining content on F&L. Then The Cool he just went flew past everyone...

Just a thought that I regularly have about music and discographies, which applies to Lupe perfectly...do you love him for his first two classics (I'm arguing they are) or hate him for his recent 'lesser' work?

Lupe is very polarizing, my cuz doesn't get it while he's in my top 10, find that sh*t weird, lol.

With the type of music Lupe makes, commercially, he's an overachiever.

That LASERS fiasco derailed his career, IMO, because, he made a private fight that all artist go through, way more important than his fans.

I'm comin' around, but, I have yet to hear LASERS, even though I've bought all his albums.

Dude is an interesting character & seems to be over the rigmarole of the music industry.

Food & Liquor flopped and he came back to go Gold with a conception-ally convoluted album in The Cool. That doesn't happen nowadays and it's crazy to think he was gonna be that big--outside of Child Rebel Solider actually droppin' an album--making social conscience music with intricate lyrics in the Twitter age.

Sidebar: F&L 2 grew on me (solid 4/5 album). I just don't like how he trolled us with the album title .

As a fan of Food & Liquor series and The Cool, I feel Laser was his downfall, because be buckled

under the pressure of Atlantic, and made an album to appease them, instead of staying true to his

"warrior heart" spirit. And, now his new music with a few exceptions, lacks his original brevity. And also, no Soundtrakk on the board makes him sound transparent:yeshrug:
