This is what music is supposed to be about. Music isn't supposed to be heard, it's supposed to be felt. When an artist pulls from a deep, passionate place, it resonates with something outside of your 5 senses.

I'll be vulnerable for a sec, first time I heard this shyt, I legit shed a tear. Sent shockwaves thru my body as my mind was slowly deciphering what he was saying.

Lupe will always be my goat. fukk album sales. fukk commercial singles. fukk popularity. This nikkas music taught me what it meant to be an "artist". Top 3 doa idgaf

One of the most layered and meaningful songs I've ever heard. Naming the slave ships when I first heard it made me tear up.

So many of our people taken and there are even more ships to name.

Personification of the seas, stars and trees was beautiful.

One of the best albums ever.
Extremely emotional song. I can say I didn’t like any of the last few Lupe Fiasco albums but he is an incredible lyricist. Probably one of the top 5 ever. It pained me to type that but I think it’s accurate. Not as a complete artist because there are plenty of MCs I dig more. But as a human being rhyming english words and the meaning behind those words, Dude is incredible.

Drogas Wave one of the best albums of all time imo, at least it’s in my personal top 5. I think he found his perfect balance of storytelling and social commentary while having his rhyme schemes and flow being incredible, and the music itself is great and lush with the occasional catchy hook thrown in too. WAV Flies and Alan Forever two of my favorite songs ever, and there’s so much more on there.

I cut the song off the first time through when he began naming all the ships. shyt stirred up a very deep pain. Music like that isn’t made often. Props to Lupe.

It's funny, because as powerful and moving as this song is...the only reason why I could listen to it over and over again and not feel so affected by pain because it was followed by Down, which kinda deserves it's own thread.

The catharsis of seeing how black people adapt and make the best out of their hardships, seeing that process in my own life, in the world and in between the bars of these songs kept me aloat.

Am I tripping or does the production of this record resemble ocarina of time's battle music without the horn and some modern drums

Add in Navi the fairy "hey" with a bit of distortion sprinkled on the track

If the producer actually used this as inspiration and flipped it, I'd be mad impressed. That's dope as hell
