sometimes it's awkward. I'm a low key dude so it's different for me having to talk to strangers all the time. I'll ask em what music they like cause I got spotify. then a convo might happen. sometimes it seems like they just want a quiet ride so I just play music and ride. but then sometimes I get flags for not being friendly:hhh:........some of these people expect you to give em rides and entertain them too.

This used to be my problem and what I hated about the job. I just wanna drive and chill, not entertain people. Some ppl get in your car and wanna get all in your personal life and will constantly ask you questions, some which are none of their business. It gets ridiculous. Especially if you're doing a lot of trips a day. With experience though you learn how to counter most questions and get ppl to leave you alone. When ppl ask me things I don't care to answer I just say "its a long story" or "that's a long story" or "it's complicated." A few other tricks...

  • Play the music a little loud (but not too loud) so that it drowns the sound of your voices so ppl are more discouraged to hold conversation
  • If you got LED lights and have candy in your car, ppl will instantly like you the moment they get in. Sometimes tho, they think that's a sign to be your best friend and get extra friendly and comfortable with you and talk your ear off. That's why playing the music loud is vital.

The job overall just made me hate people and has made me realize how dumb America really is and how are future is doomed with these new generation of a$$holes.

Uber takes care of its home base. Plus people in SF don't play, they'll quickly cause a protest and be disruptive, if they feel unfairly treated, the same can't be said for the rest of the country. It's more a race to the bottom....

With that said, during summer I was averaging 1400-1700k a week, during hours before 10am and after 6pm. So it's feasible to still have a day job, which I recommend.

Anyone who thinks that possible right now, during this time of year simply isn't doing their hw or has no sense of supply and demand seasonal changes...

I'm out here in LA too. I've been driving uber for about 3 months and I've never had a week where I pulled anything close to 1.4k to 1.7k. How the fukk do you do that? Are you doing uber x? I know some tricks like working in the mornings to take people to work because it's usually surging, working bar/club closes on weekends, and rush hour on weekdays. I've heard of/thought of some other tricks like posting by hotels on sundays near checkout time to get airport drop offs, looking at events on facebook and eventbright and posting up in those spots when they let out but I haven't tried it yet. I've also heard of drivers scheduling airport drop offs with tourists by giving the tourists there numbers when they happen to pick them up. What the hell do you do?

This guy I know that drives for Uber said on weekends at around 8-9pm he'll post up in Frisco which is about 45 minutes and 30 miles from downtown Dallas. Around that time the surge is usually 2-3x or more depending on what's going on in the city that weekend. While driving them to Dallas he'll set up an agreement to pick them up around 2am when the bars close....said it's an easy $100-200 sometimes more

It may have been covered but you boys need accountants

Because the IRS just waiting in the cut like :steviej: they be taking notes on everyone getting paid out from Uber and just waiting to close the net on yall

But also y'all need to depreciate that car as a small business asset so you can get tax relief and basically refinance your car with your labor

Hmm.. Some of my homeboys are thinking about doing this. Im not a big fan because i dont think it's worth the time and mileage you are putting o your car. If i was unemployed then yes it would be a viable option until i get my shyt together. But from what i hear if you're just doing it casually for the extra cash it's not necessarily worth it. According to this cat i know you gotta really hustle if you wanna make that extra $1K a month.
To each his own, tho :manny:
In the meantime I'm just laughing at people buying expensive cars they cant afford on some "it'll pay for itself if I just do some Uber/Lyft on the side" :heh:
