Y'all want to discredit M.I.A but was the first one to bring Diplo's production mainstream. That shyt is everywhere now.

She did have hella influence, saying she's just the "paper planes" girl is a little disingenuous.

Her comment is a reach though, but I see where she's coming from a little bit.

Now I prepare to get shytted on by nikkas who really don't know music:upsetfavre:
Most of these posters are clueless outside of their favorite artists ... pop fans ...

I've been in this thread talking about Arular, there are songs from that album that are self produced including "Galang" that contain "other world " sounds which was one of the songs that brought her fame along with songs that were co produced with Diplo among others. You're attempting to write M.I.A off as an artist that has no hand in the creation of her sound, that is very far from the case. It's an absolute fact that she was one of if not the first to bring that sound to the mainstream
None of which are the sound that she is accusing them to have jacked. Which is the point of discussion. You are trying to create talking points in her defense that I'm not speaking on breh. I never once mentioned anything about her not producing or the even the quality of her production so let's calm the t*ts down. She has produced and created music for a long time. Yes, I know that. I was a DJ in Atlanta and LA for some time. I'm well aware her, her accolades and many others. You happy with that? Cool. That's not what the conversation is about.

Back on point, the sound that people and herself are accusing the other two brawds to have jacked is not the sound she created. The majority of the world thinks of Paper Planes and Bad Girlz as the sound associated with MIA. That is the sound that people are arguing that Beyonce and Rihanna stole and that, is not MIAs sound. Being a fan of hers to the degree that you are, I'm sure you are aware of that point. Those were just two songs that she happened to do among others. They just happen to be the 2 songs that brought her into the attention of American Pop culture and her popularity jump here. Real fans of music as a whole knew of her long before but we are not the majority, they are.I could name half a dozen artists that have made music that sounds like those 2 songs, prior to MIA making it and that's kind of my point breh. She has her own sound and those aren't it.

That's why I said it's kind of a reach. But M.I.A was the pioneer of that sound ,if it wasn't for Arular and "Bucky Done Gun" is there a Diplo/Major Lazer? There sure as hell wouldn't be a "who runs the world" by Beyoncé...that's why i say I see where she comes from a little bit
But that's Diplos-style. From a production standpoint I guess you can attribute bey's style to Diplo. But vocally all bey's been doing is rapping. Her content stylistically doesn't sound at all like Bucky Done or that other stuff. Bey seems just as influenced by American Hip Hop/Southern Hip-Hop/Trap if anything. MIA was swinging for the damn fences with her claim.

Did this hoe really say michael jackson parents built a world for him?

Joe and his wife were damn near dirt poor in gary trying to teach them boys how to two step while dancing and singing. Joe knew them kids and mike were a way to get out of poverty.

Second hoe even though beyonce dad had a great paying job this brotha was far from rich. Brotha made in the high 200 to 300ks but that brotha wasn't some millionaire.

This crusty wanch need to sit down.

Damn she's 41. :flabbynsick:

Sounds like an attention grab from MIA, but she does have a point about them being unoriginal.

Madonna, Beyoncé & Rihanna are about as organic as a Hilary Clinton presidential campaign.

I mean I think we all came to the conclusion this bytch herself is unoriginal so she might as well sit her ass down somewhere. :ehh:

Sort of. Kind of felt like it was inevitable Diplo would get famous after a long time of production and developing to a more pop sound. We knew we'd never get anymore albums like "Florida" out of him once he linked with folks like M.I.A. Which is fine because I'm a fan of hers. Diplo and M.I.A. made a good team.

The only one who has legit style theft claims is Sia, who has written 73 songs for other artists. And even then, she got paid for it.

Off topic but I did wonder that about Sia. I'd say Beth Gibbond and Bjork are in that category too since they're both original and vocalists have jacked their style as well.

M.I.A. is doper than both of em...way more original and got her own style...them other singers switch styles depending on whats hot...

Yeah, I definitely have bumped more M.I.A. than Beyonce and Rihanna. Even though folks know her from Paper Planes and Bad Girls, she's got some interesting music.

Yeah I was about to say that she has produced her own stuff.

As for her comments, I can see them borrowing from her a little bit but at the same, she has to own to the fact she is rapping as a UK born Sri Lankan woman and when Diplo came into the picture, that's really what made her. Like I said, I'm a big fan of her catalog (yes, she has more material than the shyt you heard that got nominated by MTV that's actually good) but she's going to need to take a step back for a second and realize what she is doing before stepping out there. If I were her, I'd be back in the lab making some shyt. Beyonce and Rihanna stayed putting out more shyt to keep their buzz going. Madonna doesn't even need to drop an album; all she needs to do is announce a tour and she's packed the venue on the first night damn near (let's not forgot, Madonna did try and rap, too, so M.I.A. may have a point).
