Finally went to see it. It’s good, not great. Didn’t like the ending but it kinda made sense (in terms of Ma’s actions).

Didn’t like the daughter as a twist. I understand logically why Ma wanted her to not be in school, but it felt like she was in school in the beginning simply to serve as a telegraph for the twist later on. Also she was convenient for the third act. Just unnecessary. And I wish they went with a more “racial” angle as opposed to Sue Ann liking the kid and what they did to her with the closet thing. One of the only Black people in school/in town. Would’ve been logical, even if some would’ve written it off as “cliche” or “lazy.” The African masks in the house was a send off. They should’ve shown Ma actually kill the vet doctor. I mean I could go on...a cool little watch but could’ve been even better

This was cool.

If youre really honest, going into this movie the ceiling could only be so high.

I wasn't expecting an Masterpiece and it didn't over-deliver, but I wasn't disappointed either.

Better than that Greta shyt that dropped earlier this year.

Craven was of the generation that grew up on Vietnam. So that’s all the shyt they were seeing on tv. And he was a hippy. So he wanted to make an anti violence movie about violence coming out of people you wouldn’t expect. Hence, last house on the left. He wanted something so shocking and so visceral that you had to question it and question violence during an age where they were politicizing and making money off of violent images from war.

Last house on the left came from him doing research on this cannibal family from the 16th or 17th century. One of those centuries. And much like last house on the left, he continued that theme of good guys can become bad guys at the drop of a dime depending on the situation.

Craven was a smart smart smart dude. Most of his movies came from him just being in a library and reading and then having an “ah ha” moment.

I caught a leak of this last night. I didn’t expect much except fukkery and it just felt lacking all around, even in the fukkery department. Octavia Spencer killed it but the movie was kinda just a mess. Pacing was off big time, storylines felt half cooked, none of the characters were memorable or likeable and had zero progression. By the time the twists kick in and the deaths start it kinda just feels like If anything the Sue Ann character was sympathetic minus her manipulation, but

in an era where #MeToo is a thing and racial tensions are so high, having what’s supposed to be your big bad character be that way due to sexual assault in a predominantly white town where the racial undertones were definitely toyed with in the movie (albeit ever so slightly) I found it hard to not feel for her or sympathize with her want for revenge. We’ve seen movies where white women were sexually abused and murdered their tormentors, this movie could’ve been something along those lines if Sue Ann hadn’t targeted their kids instead. And that probably would’ve been a better movie.

Poor writing overall though. It couldve been much more and deeper but it didn't go there.

Saw this over the weekend, felt like watching the trailer beforehand it hit most of the beats I was expecting. Spencer carries the movie, they should have given the kids or adults more personality. There was one twist I didn't know from the trailers.

Ma's boss was on her ass throughout the movie though

Movie was a mess, sad because between Octavia and the various plot lines they had, there was potential for a much more developed/compelling film.


This doesn’t even work from the “fukkery for fukkery’s sake” angle. Kids being that pressed about drinking...on weeknights at that (I can’t get with all these teen drug/alcohol heavy pictures and shows these days, that’s not the average life of a HS kid)...that y’all hang at some weirdo adult’s house who keeps inviting you over and trying too hard to be down? The second she text y’all/added you on Facebook should have been a wrap for that bytch.


And I find it weird that they used the kids as a vehicle to spark this revenge when, other than maggie’s Mom, sue ann clearly lived I the same town with Ben and Mercedes and could’ve killed them anytime. You telling me she ain’t seen them Hawkins cleaning trucks before . It also cheapens the charter having her kill the vet, she didn’t seem fixated on just killing people randomly, so having her kill someone other than a target was


5/10 movie with a lot of that coming from Octavia playing such a spazz lol
