My parents didn't have me call them anything else but mom and dad. I use sir and ma'am when I'm speaking to older folks mostly or sometimes when messing around with my friends. One of them do something for me I be like Thank you sir or to mess with them when they ask a question be like Yes Ma'am.

I guess its nor different than calling older people uncle and auntie imogen when they not your uncle or auntie. That's more if a west indian thing but a lot of other cultures do that too.

Done everywhere but I think it's a learned thing that varies a lot. Learned through my grandma and her friends and shyt. Nows its just a force of habit and some people, especially women get a lil caught off guard by the ma'am thing.

I call every older man sir unless they are nigerian. If they are nigerian i call them uncle or oga

I dont call every older woman ma'm anymore, i used to. Now i can clearly see women dont like being called ma'm the same way men like being called sir.

I call most older black women auntie, not just nigerians. Some dont appreciate it, some do :yeshrug:

I use these for people I don't know; no matter who, no matter how old.

Even little boys and girls are "young Sir" and "young Madam"

My dad a vet

Sir/ma'am was a staple in the house..or else :merchant::ufdup:

Saying "what" instead of "pardon/I beg your pardon" :merchant::ufdup:

My dad was a vet too...he tried to get me to call him that as a youngin but naw that shyt never worked out. If you can't handle being called pops or dad, or me calling you something off the wall, then I'm sorry I can't help you :mjlol::hubie:

I only call people sir and ma'm if I'm being intentionally obnoxious.

fukk outa here with all that.
