I always had love for The Bay (the west coast as a whole, really). The Bay has always been so unique to me. Some of the greatest come from there.

Yeah, I like how Dre did his own thing with his own crew and they did it independently too. Dre had a original style too. He really didn't sound like nobody. I like how cool and laid back he was with his rapping style.

I always wondered was the influence of X the turn in his music or was he already popping X before the Ronald Dregan/Genie of the Lamp albums?

X was huge way back in 2000, which was way before those albums dropped. You could kind of see the slow deterioration of his sanity over the years from it through his music, as his albums got progressively weirder. If you peep, the Heart of a Gangster album had a track on it called Black Buck Rogers and it was released in 2000. That ain't no ordinary shyt, breh :russ: He damn near had a bigger name as a pimp out here than as a rapper. Most casual fans think it's all jokes, but dude really was a psychotic nut job. That's why he's so revered though, he just never wasn't busy.

I'm still looking for some footage from an old Too Short (still my favorite performer to see btw) concert back in the 80's where he gives a shout out to Mac Dre in the audience.

I love bay area funk inspired shyt:ohlawd: Vallejo doesn't get the respect it deserves when it come to funk imo.

Con Funk Shun, Sly Stone, and Ike Turner always come to my mind when thinking about it.

This beat reminds me kind of some DJ Quik shyt in a way.

It's ironic you say that tho because every time I listened to Stupid Doo Doo Dumb, I always felt you could feel the X through the music. The album just feels weird.

But that song is out there tho, lol.

Had the X shyt always been apart of his music or was it more so by the late 90's? I know Stupid Doo Doo Dumb came out in like 98'.

X was around in the late 90's, but Stoopid Doo Doo Dumb was probably more coke inspired if I were to take a guess.

Mac was sniffing too? Damn, that nikka was productive as a motherfukker for as many drugs as he was doing :damn:

That's my assumption, I don't think he was using as heavy as he was once X started taking off. Pills just weren't moving like that when the album dropped, and the whole mood of it didn't really feel all the way weed inspired.

Yeah. I believe that. X was popping like crazy in the early 2000s. I mean, white people had been on that shyt but as far as in our community that shyt started really popping up in the 2000s.

The only black people I knew who did that shyt was Shock G, George Clinton, Mac Dre, and Ja Rule.

But as far as people I actually knew who did it, they was all white :russ:

I never wanted to do it after I heard that shyt literally eats away at your brain :picard:

Vallejo got funky beats for days...

I needed some new old shyt to revisit cause I'd been getting bored with Hip Hop again. This gives me some more old stuff to revisit that I hadn't listen to in a while.

I remember before Tower Records close, I was just buying shyt from there for cheap and a lot of what I got was Mac Dre's albums. I had this Romp compilation too
