My Macbook pro hard drive seemed to have failed or crashed. I've tried to erase it, format it, and reinstall OS X onto my computer nothing seems to work as it doesn't get past the grey screen with the spinning wheel. It sounds like I'm going to need a new hard drive. Has anyone ever had to replace the hard drive for a macbook pro? This unit was purchased in 2009.

Not to derail your thread Bruh

But which Macbook should I get?

13in Pro or Air

The macbook is going to be used for school and computer illustration class....I might make some beats on there too.

I'm new to Macs, I got some leftover refund check money to treat myself with a Mac.

just follow the ifixit link and make sure you have the right Torx screwdriver.

I did this on my old 2010 and actually pulled the hard drive and swapped in a Samsung SSD. I would recommend it, boot up from a cold shutdown is literally instant and app launch is snappy now.

I took the old drive, threw it in a 2.5" external enclosure and use it as a time machine backup / random storage drive now.

if you're being serious about making beats and other stuff get the pro. If all you're gonna do is basic shyt like internet get the air

buy one off craigslist though, you'll save a few hundred

The refund check is for the Mac ( they want a receipt to know I'm not committing fraud) :lupe:

I feel like I'm at a crossroad :noah:

wtf aren't you talking about college refund checks? Isn't that your money anyway? :dahell:

and tbh imo you should get the pro. Even if you don't use that extra power you'll get more money back when you sell it. Idk how the reliability is on these airs. I've had a few macs but rn i have a new MBP I've had for a year, still great ofc, and a 4 year old iMac i got in 2010. iMac is still running flawless too. The reliability on macs when compared to PC's is crazy and its one of the biggest things that separates them imo. Most PC's don't last too long, or if they do they're extremely slow. And macs have great resale value too so remember that. People are still buying macs from fukkin 2004 :wow:

you see any PC's from 2004 being sold?

The refund check is left over loan money but my school require proof to send the govt that I'm using for school related things.

had the grey screen of death on my late-2011 17 in. mbp... Apple Store said it was the graphics card. They repaired it for around $300 iirc, been good ever since. When I went to pick it up they said the hdd was corrupted and they had to replace that too

yeah i fukked up my iMac HDD back in 2012 :sadcam: was fukkin around with magnets and i guess i put it too close to the hard drive and that fukked it up. Apple isn't a bytch about HDD issues, they always change it for free
