almost all of these confrontations end up being over teachers taking away someones phone/electronics

they need to find a better way to implement these policies/bans of phones/electronics than having teachers taking them.

:patrice:
Put it back on the parents. If a kid shows up to school with a phone despite the no phone policy, the parents are notified.

If it happens more than 3X, it's an automatic one week suspension. If that same student is suspended 3x in a semester, there will be no fourth time. They will be expelled.

Simple. Remove the disruptive child from the environment and send a message to parents: "teachers are not there to do your job for you. If your kid can't act right, handle the situation"

Problem is too many administrators are cowards who throw their staff under the bus.
No I need to be able to communicate with my kids.
Then call the school and they'll fetch the student.

Good on her.

The phone doesn't belong to him...why is he taking it?
because he is teaching a class and she is causing a distraction with her phone probably.

i personally think there needs to be something in the middle for this to be resolved, it can't be up to the teachers.
