I never heard it and I've listened to that album countless times

Jay Elect had the same flow he's had a decade before that to my ears..

Is there a track you can point me too?
I thought they were reffering to Hov and not Jay Elec, but I haven't listened to the album in a long time.

Wait, so Jay-Z was emulating Mach Hommy

My nikka...

This on the same level as people that say celebrities are referencing thecoli

:skip:
Are you saying it's ridiculous? It's really not at all. In fact, it lines up perfectly with Jay's M.O.

Jay sharked Young Chris' flow, and this is well documented and no one denies it. Jay has always taken from artists he likes and respects. If you've followed Jay at all from Covid to now, it's well documented that he hugely follows the underground scene. Boldy James, Mach-Hommy, Westside Gunn, Conway, and Benny are 5 of his favorite rappers. In particular, he's shown a lot of love to Conway's flow on Overdose, Boldy James' flow on Speed Demon, and some other notable songs and albums. Squeaky Hinge in particular also one of Hov's favorite Mach songs.

Mach was even a part of the Written Testimony album sessions, and originally had a verse on Neverending Story with Hov/JayElec/ALC but it was cut for unknown reasons. Jay has posted multiple pictures with Mach from multiple times hanging out together. Hov's in my top 3 all time BTW, so I'm not hating. But if you know Hov it's silly to act like this isn't a possibility.

Coli logic is since jay took a photo with him Mach wrote for jay smh
I mean bro, Mach was originally on the album with Hov and Jay Elec. Hov brought Mach to Jay Elec in the first place. Hov is a huge Mach stan, and they apparently hang out at least semi-regularly. I don't see how it's that far fetched. People act like Mach got an autograph and a picture from Hov, when the reality is they've kicked it at least a few times and have recorded on the same songs from the same albums together. Jay is well known for taking flows from his collaborators and other rappers that he likes and respects

:manny: let 'em.

I was a Jay-Z Super Stan from like 2000 through 2007, and I used to read every word of his Decoded book like it was a bible. I think I'm one of the biggest Jay fans of all time, but I'm not afraid to call it like I see it.

BTW to be clear, I myself am not even saying that I think he for sure sharked Mach's flow on Written Testimony. But the notion that anyone would write it off as being impossible or totally out of the realm of possibility is ridiculous. It's absolutely possible. One of Jay's top skill sets is borrowing from others while simultaneously framing himself as an innovator. I don't mean that as a back handed compliment, either. He's does it while still sounding original, and it's brilliant.

Edit: I'm listening to the album now and halfway through I don't hear anything that sounds like obvious biting to me, but I can hear why some people think it sounds inspired.

Chris has been denying this for 20 years, lol.

Beans did too.

Weirdos online who hate Jay started that bullsh*t. And Chris said all that f*cked his career up because now people don’t take him seriously as standing on his own. He hates that people say that. I can say from experience, that nobody on Roc during that time even thought or spoke about any of this. It's just more sh*t that grew legs online and wasn't true.

Lol no one at the Rc spoke about this? Their A&R talks about it. I'm genuinely stunned that anyone has ever tried to deny it. I thought that almost all Hov fans just embraced it. it led to many of Jay's best verses. IMO Chris gives political answers when asked about it, and the hardest denouncement I've ever seen was Chris on Bleek's podcast talking about it, but even then he seemed more frustrated people keep talking about moreso than him spending a lot of time denying that it's true.

I dunno bro. I feel like everyone that listens to State Prop and Jay both realize that Jay borrowed a lot of Chris. I'm not even calling it biting. They were all around each other, and artists inspire artists. But to deny that Jay was rapping one way before he signed Chris and Stet Prop, and then rapping another way after he signed Chris and State Prop, is )with all due respect) a bit disingenuous.

Like, Jay had a deep bag and a lot of flows until he signed them, but after he signed them his bag got deeper and there's a lot of songs with Chris' cadences and pockets
