What’s dope about the hook is the connection to the skit before it.

The skit before it is a recording of a homeless child in haiti criticizing the government of Haiti. She’s saying that if the government did its job that they wouldn’t have homeless children living on the streets. The child runs off for some reason and the person doing the recording than says that they didn’t see the child with any adults (implying that the child was an orphan)

you right. The verse is a shout out to his people gone or in jail. But IMO the hook has some allusions to the government based on the skit of the kid talking.

Not sure it was intentional as Basquiat paintings are highly popular....
I think it's a low key paying homage Since the Mach is Haitian, so since Basquiat is half Haitian half Puerto Rican and was in the early scene of when hip hop was merging with the downtown Manhattan punk,fashion, art scene headed by Fab Fab Freddy and them Basquiat was around and his paintings incorporated urban hip hop graffiti,voodoo art so I'm assuming the licensing needed from Basquiat estate to put Basquiat painting on the art cover maybe was an issue or not so they put that (copy/remake of the painting) .......who knows... Appreciate the indie underground vibe music though.
