I don't see Macklemore get hated on but I just don't know anyone (myself included) that feel or listen to his music. There are a shytload of white emcees who are better than him. One would argue that if those other white mcs are better then why didn't sell anything. You can't say it's because Macklemore was on a major like interscope because he was completely independent

He was the highest selling rapper that year. Sales is the most important criteria in Grammy nods
